Default I have to decide 03 vs. 05

I've found 2 cars that will work for me. An 03 one owner with 65k all stock; and an 05 2 owner with 71k. Both have clean titles and carfax reports. Both are about 14k asking price. I have checked out the 03 and it looks and drives great. Will look at the 05 later this week. One concern is that on the 05 the previous owner for some reason replaced the 05 wheels with AP1 wheels. I will only be using the car for commuting so at the limit handling is not a concern. Will a smaller wheel size on the 05 have any noticeable effect on the way the car drives or handles? I understand the chassis was changed in 04 to accommodate larger wheels. I haven't seen the AP1 wheels that are on the car; were 17' wheels an option? Thanks,

IMO the 2003 is overpriced by about $2K. Sure it's probably in close to mint shape but 65K is not low miles for an S2000. (My 2002 has 38K miles and many cars on here have less)

I'd be skeptical about the 05 having AP1 wheels. Not sure why anyone would do that unless the car was wrecked and a couple of the wheels were cracked, bent and the owner couldn't find AP2 wheels (because everyone wants them) and had to throw a set of used Ap1's on it.

AP2 owner could have had his wheels stolen. Either way, I wouldn't pay 14k for those cars. The mileage is way too high.

Offer 12.5k for the '03. The '03 is what you should be going for.

The wheel change on the '05 does seem a bit odd. Like JLUDE said, most wheel swaps are from AP1 -> AP2 style. This shouldn't be a huge effect on how the car drives though, assuming proper sized tires are mounted.

Pricing does seem a bit high on the 2003. Edmunds TMV shows an '05 private party with that mileage to be right about $14k my area, and the '03 at $11.5.

What colors are they? That can be a big swing in price.

I'd go with the AP1 and offer $12,000. Blue Book probably around $13,000.

My guess is the previous owner went custom and sold the stocks only to have to repurchase when it was time to sell the car.

No biggie then. I was thinking that maybe the '03 was white. Those tend to command a higher price.
