I forgot to say I take special efforts to thump the road rage idiots. They are a danger to us all.

Hi Geoff. I did not see your post when I looked through the first time. Interesting about the Car and Driver article. I will look in to that.

rporter is not telling the truth. Cops get promotions based on the number of citations issued, tickets are issued for as little as 1 mph over (I've seen many of them), and cops drive as fast as everyone else. We've all seen them doing this on and off duty. Indiana is just like everyplace else. There are lots of speed traps. Look at the speedtrap web site run by NMA.

I just read about 200 "speedwaves" citations issued in my county that I acquired by open records. All of them issued in a 2 month period on one stretch of road. They had an officer using laser on an overpass, with chase vehicles hiding on on ramps. First thing I noticed is that many of these citations claim to have a laser reading from 1500 to 2200 feet. Manufacturers claim only a maximum of 600 feet for reliable readings. Court cases say no distance over 1000 feet should be admissable. Moreover, I know this road. There is a steep curve, with obstructions on the side of the road, making it impossible to see beyond 1000 feet from that overpass. Laser, like radar, gets wider the further it goes, so at 1500 feet it is picking up the whole road, not a particular car. Unfortunately, at least as the cops tell it, most of these motorists admitted to going over the speed limit (which is set very low), though not the accused speed (80 percent of motorists ignore this speed limit). Every one of them was cited. But if you want to insist on admitting guilt, be my guest. Everything you say will be used against you. Even when people said nothing, the officer tried to make much out of their not denying the charges.

What does "whatever" mean. Are you saying that these citations don't exist? Or are you claiming that laser is good for 2000 feet? Or are your denying that tickets are considered in promotion decisions? I am familiar with police speed enforcement training, culture, equiptment, and case law. Cops hate it when they meet someone who knows procedure. The only thing you can say is "whatever." Very convincing argument. You came on here and told people when pulled over to confess. You don't have their interests in heart.

I think he's saying that you appear to have an agenda that isn't totally in line with reality.

rporter - you've got my vote. Anyone who thinks there should be no traffic rules or enforcement is an idiot. Anyone who thinks these laws should be enforced with discretion is fine by me.

AusS2000, you don't know anything about the law in the U.S. This guy says he's a DA and says that speeding tickets are given out only reluctantly. He's lying, either about being a DA or the number of tickets that are issued on a routine basis in this country.

Let's test him. Rporter, what's the most cited and foundational case on moving radar, the case that first took judicial notice of moving radar, was cited by other courts, and is even discussed in training manuals for the police? Any DA who's prosecuted speeding tickets will know the answer.

You don't have any idea of what I do or do not know. We're not all entirely ignorant of what goes on in the rest of the world like some people.

This 'I know everything, everyone else knows nothing or is a lier!' attitude is really rather grating.

Sure his insight is helpful but he also is covering up that extra bonus cops get for exploiting mostly innocent, compitent, and hard-working people. Being a cop is a job with a wage just like anyone else so I understand why cops would want to screw the citizens they protect to gain income... its a job too..

But to our perspective that is wrong and corrupt. I dont speed but I always get harrassed by cops. Ill get followed for 5-10 mins for no reason.. (doesnt take that long to get a background check) Just so the cop can get his LULZ

just my opinion sry if I offended anyone
