Derryck, I think if you can get a video of you cranking out low 12s or high 11s in the 1/4mi
then everyone will just stfu.

And you're right, most people here probably don't have an inkling behind the thermodynamics of a turbocharger setup. I wouldn't let it get to you. Just as they have cast doubt your way, do the same back. They haven't proved they know anything so don't believe them. After all, you're the one with the S2000 picking on Z06s.

Is the public privy to any such analysis? Does Dwight know the temperature of the air coming out of the intercooler?

My only beef with your setup is that I can't afford it right now. Nor do I have time to send my car to Florida. Did you say the kit installation was going to be simple enough that any decent mechanic should be able to do the install?

Temin,
Yes, any mechanic should be able to figure it out. It would probably give them a slight edge if they are accustomed to working with hybrid imports. As for the video, they can be doctored and I'm sure I would be accused. In actuality, I don't really care, I love my car the way it is and that's what matters. I'm sure Chris will back me on that one. I understand it's alot of money and it definitely is. I just find it amusing sometimes the 'nit picky' things that board members like to discuss. Thanks for the words though.

Derryck, I expect that every endeavor in the history of humanity has had it's share of nay-sayers. Circumnavigating the world, landing on the Moon, slicing bread etc etc. If they nay-sayers had their way, we'd be still be living in caves and wearing animal skins. Kinda like those Quizno's commercials. Try not to let it get to you. I look forward to hearing about your future developments.

Yeah, um, what he (derryck) said.

Honestly though - it's an expensive setup, just like the supercharger is, but you get what you pay for. I can't stress this enough. The kit is amazing, the work is very very clean, and you might even be able to run from the credit collectors when they come. I got a chance to meet dwight, the main mechanic (who did both of our turbos) this weekend for the first time, and lemme just say that he knows his stuff _very_ well. I don't generally get good fuzzies around car mechanics (probably due to some crappy experiences at honda dealerships and other shops), but when I talk to dwight I feel as if I'm in good hands. I had the vafc installed and tuned, and if you look at the dynos, how they were a little blorbully (yes that's a word, I said so) at the top, it's very smooth now. The power comes on very nicely.

As far as the "proof" argument, I think that both derryck and I have tried to go out of our way to show things on the boards.. dynos, pictures and such.. what else can we give? I don't know about derryck but I certainly don't have a video camera that can convert stuff to movie format. I will try to get out to the track and scan in a timeslip (boy I can feel the pressure to perform already) - but I think that's about the best I can do. You guys will just have to take my word (since on the boards, that's really all I've got) that the car is one bad mother.

peace-

cd

I definitely don't have a problem spending money on something worthy of the cost. I just don't have $8000 lying around right now. Stupid school loans. Maybe if Michigan would credit me a semester or two out-of-state tuition...

How's the fuel economy? Any drastic change from what you used to get?

Please put many more miles on your cars to show me the reliability of the turbo kit.

But then again, that wouldn't see most of its effect unless he was moving....:-(.

But I think a more accurate way is to put a temperature sensor in the pipe coming right out of the intercooler. If it does in fact cool it to near ambient temperature, then you would know that a cooler intake will not help.

PS Please don't question the math....I just finished a few hours of calculus homework and have a calculus midterm tomorrow, so I really don't want to prove my point, but I can....trust me!

I really don't want to labor the point, but we're not talking about ram air effect so moving or not is not the issue. The issue is source air initial temp. In fact I expect that if you do see a difference on the dyno with the hood closed it would actually be more than what you'd get in reality because when the vehicle is moving the underhood temp would be less due to air circulation.

I'm gunna bow out about there. Tempers are high and egos fragile and until I can save up $AUD13,000 it's a moot point from my POV.

In order for the intercooler to be working effectively you will have to be moving so you have proper flow through the fins. I think that is what he was talking about.
