Default Speedometer error

We just got a Garmin nuvi 260W, and one thing I noticed was the GPS speed estimate. I've read on the boards here that (based on GPS speeds IIRC) S2000s generally report about 3% higher than actual speed. I was surprised to see that at ~60-80mph, my MY06 reports my speed to be only about 1/2 mph higher than the GPS reports--I was expecting ~2mph higher.

So what gives? I'm assuming the GPS is accurate, so is my MY06 different, or did they change the speedometer's overread from the 2-3% in 2006?

I have performed the same test on my 03. I have checked with my Nuvi 265WT, my older handheld GPS unit and the Scanguage and in the 50-60 range my car is ALWAYS 1mph higher than everything else.

Honda may have fixed the issue since they did have to pay penalties for having fast odometers a couple of years ago.

tire size plays a big factor. even just new to olld tires of the same size could change it by 1-2 mph

That's what mine's due to--I'm running winter tires, AP1 rims and losing tread. I'm surprised I forgot that. Well, I guess my results are bogus!

I forgot about that odometer issue, though, so I'm curious to see once I get the summer tires back on.

In my previous 2005 car, the speedometer was surprisingly accurate. Compared to 2 different gps's.
