Default Speedvision / Speed Channel Petition

Hi everyone,

I believe that a lot of the reason we are driving our cool S2Ks has to do with the advances made in motorsports. I have been a HUGE motorsport fan for 5+ years and know that some of you are motorsport/motorbike fans as well.

Speed Channel recently changed their programming to include a lot of Nascar. I won't go into my "why I don't like Nascar as an innovative racing sport" rant right now (I do think it's entertainment), but I do know that there are many places to watch Nascar on TV ... TNT, Fox, etc.

If you would like to let Speed Channel know that you are a motorsport enthusiast and you are worried about losing that programming ... here's a link to a petition that was started (I got the email from people on the maxima.org board). I watch Speed Channel for F1, ALMS, BTCC, DTM and anything else that says cool cars, racing, & technology.

http://www.petitiononline.com/cel21/petition.html

And, here's a comment I wish I'D written (you don't have to make comments but one of the questions is "What do you enjoy watching on Speed Channel?") ... "F1, ALMS, World Rally, GT, Touring Car, and anything else that requires more than one turn and a carbuerated pushrod V8"

Sandy

Hello everyone....lets back off Speed TV a little...I mean same day coverage of World Rally..you can't get much better than that...12 hr live coverage of the 24hr race, I have already seen the Grand AM cup race from Daytona on Speed TV....lets give them a break for a couple of months and see what happens....it looks like we may be getting more road racing this year than last year......

Thanks for the link. I signed it. Waaaay too much NASCAR coverage. There needs to be a better balance.

I'm not sure I agree that every motorsport should be covered equally, but they need to start cutting back a little on the NASCAR coverage and add other motorsports.

Actually, I used to watch the channel all the time (I've had it for two years), but now I barely tune in.

Thanks for the signatures! I got the link from the maxima.org board and I hope that we can all make a difference. I have nothing against Nascar as entertainment ... but I LOVE watching road racing and Speedvision/Speed Channel is the only place that has the racing I love ... and they're the BEST at it (did you SEE ABC try and cover the Indy F1 race with Jason "90210" Priestly interviewing drivers? Give me Hobbs, Posey, Varsha and Matchett!!! I want MY SpeedVision!)

Good luck to us!

Same here, I think coverage of stuff we like has never been better. If ditching the boat-fix-it shows and replacing
it with NASCRAP, means same day WRC coverage, then call me a NASCRAP fan.

Hey, thanks for the link. We were a little concerned about programming changes, too.

Unfortunately, petitions don't dictate what will be shown on the Speed Channel. Ratings, and the ad revenues they generate, dictate what will be shown; right now, NASCAR (unfortunately) is the hotest game in town. That's why they usually show F1 races at like 3:00 in the am.
