Default Spin Out

Yes, I spun out today I have a quick question. Does it hurt the gear or clutch when I spin out and didn't disengage the clutch? The engine died because of that

I once spun out on black ice with a 1993 rx-7. When I hit the brakes, I apparently must have locked the wheels while still in gear. That forced engine speed to =0, i.e., the engine stalled. When spinning out you are concentrating on other things, so it is not surprising if the wheels locked and the engine consequently stalled.

It's better to disengage the clutch, though. (AKA "both feet in", referring to clutch and brake.)

First of all, it's safer. Sometimes when you stall the car there is a delay at being able to get it refired. You can end up sitting in a bad place and unable to get out of there befoer somebody plows into you.

Secondly, some of those engine parts don't like to be slammed to a stop and/or made to go backwards. A spin can result in both.

But the main issue is the just control you retain by keeping the engine running. And probably you didn't hurt your drivetrain this time.

With a little training, though, you can keep the engine running almost every time. It doesn't really take any concentration to push down on the clutch pedal. All it takes is awareness of the situation and a trained reaction.

The easiest way to "act like you've been there before" is to actually have been there before. Take a performance driving class. They all feature spin training.

I just slid off the road and into the dirt, sideway, and stalled.

When i was learning to drive the S2 My dad told me if i ever have to Slam on the breaks to use both feet. One on the clutch and the other one on the break.

I've Spun out on the highway in the rain before its not fun. I 360 across the Highway but was able to stop myself going over the side of the highway. I was lucky that the other car on the road dodge me spining. After that i had to go home and change my underwear
