Spinning Clutch!?!?!
Soemthing strange happened with my clutch last night. Stood on the car from a stop around a corner intending to break the back end loose (no I am not 15 but it is an S2000) Dumped the clutch at about 4.5k..not quite a step off but close. The clutch slipped as I reved to 8k at 3 mph!?!?! Would have kept spinning as long as I stayed on the throttle.
Smoked the clutch and stunk up the street...still smelling the burnt clutch this morning. Very Strange.
Anybody else experience this problem?
I want to take the car in for a look as I have just 4500 miles. I have experienced a slipping clutch before but never at that rpm or this new.

The clutch will smoke with anyone if it is dropped at around 4.5k rpms. The key is to drop higher so you shock the rear into spinning. Dropping it lower then 5500 is completely useless on an s2k.
What I meant to say was that this one clutch spinning incident did not cause damage other than excessive wear to the clutch....unless I glazed the entire shoe..in which event it would begin to slip on a regular basis during normal driving. I am typically a rolling start racer and was only trying to break the back loose on a whim.
I appreciate your comments and will certainly increase my tire pressure which is somehow in the 27 - 30 psi range now.

Since the clutch spun by itself, there is definatelly 0 damage to anything else.

I spun my clutch on my S2K last year - I was like, "WTF" - really caught be by surprise.
So why is it I've NEVER spun a clutch on at least 7 other manual transmission vehicles I've owned - NEVER!
This includes(all 4-6 speed manuals):
-1997 Jeep Wrangler(easily launches from a stop in 4th gear!)
-1998 Nissan Maxima SE(hit 143mph in this puppy in Death valley)
-1983 Nissan Sentra(with e-brake on I mocked a lowrider by popping the clutch and the front end bounced! - they loved it!)
-1985 Dodge Lancer Turbo(fast car)
-1992 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo(faster car)
-1989 Honda VTR 250 bike(great handling bike)
-1972 Datsun 240Z(best affordable sports car ever?)
And also on many vehicles I've driven frequently:
-1990 Corvette ZR-1(pulled more g's in this car than any other)
-1995 Mazda RX-7(as nimble as the Stook)
-1990 Nissan 300ZX Turbo(coolest car around in 1990)
just to name a few..
Never spun the clutch. Why is the S2000's clutch so lame?? I know why, cause they didn't want the differential to fail too easily?
I dunno, I hope these are things they consider in the future..

I've done the same thing about a month ago! At around 800mi on the car!
Stunk for a couple of days! I actually spun the clutch running into the rev limiter several times before I realized what was going on.
I think the stock clutch is weak!
