Default Spoon cooling mods

I've read a lot about Mugen cooling mods, but can't find much about the Spoon pieces. I only ask because I'm trying to stick to one brand as much as possible.
From the few posts I found, I read that it is sometimes hard to reach 3 bars of temperature. Living in Ohio and having to drive my car in the Winter, I am worried about this. It gets pretty hot (85-95) here in the summer, so I think these cooling mods would be useful then, but in the winter it can get pretty cold. Would the Spoon (or any) cooling mods hinder performance in the Winter?

I don't think they will in the winter... These type of mods show their potential on really hot days and stuff like track events. Even then you don't "gain" power. It's more like keeping power that "could" be lost do to heat soak. I have the mugen cooling mods, I sold the fan switch and thermo because I didn't have time to install them and needed the money, but plan on buying them in the summer again. I still have the mugen radiator cap and oil cap which I know do nothing but look pretty

I figured they didn't really gain any power. I was just worried that maybe they'd be harmful to the engine in cold weather because of not allowing it to warm up enough. Can anyone with the Spoon mods chime in?

Using the Thermostat and Temp Switch & Rad Cap will reduce the under bonnet temps a lot. Yes it takes a lot longer to get to 3 bars on the water display but this don't effect Vtec as thats oil.

My car can go up to 3 then down again if I'm in traffic, I don't see any issues at all with this as you are simply allowing the engine to maintain constant lower temp. Not so low that you would get any issues , its only like 10 degrees or so.

In the UK its pretty much 3-4 degrees during the day and -1/3 at night no issues at all in fact the car will go better due to the colder air.

The mods are there to keep the BHP by not letting the ECU get to the stage where is retards the engine when it gets so hot.

There are a few additional cooling mods you can perform for Free as well that will increase the airflow and perfromace of the car

I bought the fan switch from Mugen and thermo from Spoon cause it was the cheaper combination. The are anyway made by 3rd party suppliers and are just packed/labeled as Spoon or Mugen.

If you don't race/track your car, I would not even look into it.

I wouldn't be surprised

I disagree m8 , they are an essential mod for all the Honda Engines ( K20 series- F20 ect) as the high rev units retard very quickly from the under bonnet heat winter or Summer , Summer being where its more needed.

The effect of the cooling mods just keep the car from getting to that sluggish state when driven hard, which is what the car was designed for

^^^
the high rev units
Is that the module that lets the engine run VTEC?

My car is 6 years old.
How likely is it that part is going to fail soon?
We get hotter and hotter summers here in Holland.
Should I be worried?

Hi

Sorry thats my bad English , by "Hi Rev Units " i'm referring to the Vtec engines that Honda make. In our case the F20C they are very sensitive to heat retardation

Hello,
This is just my experiance. I have a MG style hood from Seibon. What i noticed is with the stock hood on the temp under the hood was crazy hot. Now with the MG hood it stays nice and cool. The bar temp still stays the same but now i don't get heat stroke when i open the hood. I am going to add the spoon cooling system later but vented hoods work too.

One of the very first free Mods you can do to the stock hood is to remove the insulation cover on the underside.

This not only reduces the temps under the hood but you introduce an air gap for the engine bay so the air can move in and out.

Costs $0.00 and very effective you will notice a huge difference in the amount of heat that is no longer retained under the hood.

Most noticable are the airbox , strutbar (if you have one) & intake hose as far back as the TB is substantually cooler on a permanent basis
