Don't worry there are plenty of dumb yankees who love their horrible climate, high living costs and a-hole mentality that I think a bulk of them will stay put.
Just be sure you're prepared to drive down the highways with people too lazy to change lanes that they stay in the passing lane. And you might as well remove your turn signal bulbs cuz you won't be needing them either lol. BTW, I think the Lake Norman area is very nice but the traffic is waaay heavy. We moved to Statesville almost three years ago from Syracuse and really love it. Taxes are ALOT less, and the weather during the winter is seriously a cake-walk. If I could afford to live in downtown...err uptown Charlotte, I would. It is a beautiful city.
