Stalker Radar?!?!
Anyone ever heard of this? The Valentine 1 never made a sound. Not a beep, nothing. Trooper said he was using this, not laser. My V1 usually picks up everything, and still seems to be working fine.
You can see from the posts that Stalker is just a name brand that sells some pretty sophisticated units, but according to the documentation they all operate in the bands that the V1 detects. I have no explanation.

My understanding is that an officer using LIDAR must do so from a stationary position. Don't know if that is still the case...
Do you have your V1 mounted funky so that the back "view" is blocked?
Did you see him coming?
Is the V1 hard wired or connect to the outlet?
Did the detector get accidentally powered off?
Was the V1 in any filter setting?
Maybe he was bs'n you cause he knew you had a detector...
You might want to take him to court and fight it. If it is new device or technology, make sure he is properly trained and that the records show the device was properly maintained. You may get the fine reduced...
Bummer...
I am pretty sure Texas Troopers are not using LIDAR. The Trooper told me it was Stalker Radar (yes, I asked, he was giving me the ticket).
Crested a hill, he was coming in the other direction. On 45 down near Houston. The V1 is hardwired, much like loki's, no rear obstruction, but it shouldn't have mattered, he tagged me from the front.
The detector was on the normal setting, no filter. And not one peep out of it, at any time, went on down the highway and it caught every other officer the rest of the way. Really strange.
Anyway, no worries, the getting the ticket dismissed isn't much of a hassle. Just really strange to see the V1 completely miss something like that.

There are several more possibilities. He could have been using VASCAR and calling it radar. In the past, I have heard POs calling VASCAR "undetectable radar". We all know it's just a timing device, but he may have been telling you he had radar either out of ignorance or to pull your chain - some POs find radar detectors a personal affront. I also remember hearing several years ago about some PDs that were "off tuning" their radar equipment to transmit just outside of the recognized FCC frequency bands. This would make their emissions undetectable by radar detectors targeted at the normal radar bands. This is plausible, and I don't know what the bandpass frequencies of a RD like the Valentine One are. In any case, since the frequency bands for transmission are set, "off tuning" would have been illegal. I do know that if there were a Stalker Radar that was undetectable, every PD in MD would have one. These guys live to collect taxes, er, keep MDs highways safe.
