Default Stalling problems.

Does anyone else's s2000 almost stall when you turn it on on a cold morning? Once, my car DID stall about 4 seconds after I turned it on and I was wondering if this is normal...

I drove mine Saturday evening (before the snow and sub zero temps) and everything was fine. Maybe it depends on how long you've had your car idle?

It never gets that cold down here in Houston, but I have had some issues with stalling... Easily remedied by moving the gear lever from 3rd to 1st when leaving from a stop, though.

Last week when it was like 20 below I couldn't start, so I did half gas.
Started rev'd to 3k let my foot off of the gas, stall.

I had to hold the gas to keep the revs to 2k for like 20 seconds.

Weird but doesn't bother me much.

I did kill my battery the first week I had the S (left the lights on) maybe that has something to do with it.

I have had my S for a little over a month now it has about 1200 miles and it has stalled 3 or 4 times on cold mornings this winter. I asked the dealership about it and they said that if something was really wrong that the engine light would come on. I know it has been extremely cold this winter, but this is not something I would expect from Honda. My S stays in my garage, But my Acura stayed outside and never had this problem.

This is normal. Both my MY01 and MY03 stall at initial start on cold morings. 2 possible fixes.

1. Go with 0-30w oil in the winter (not recommended)
2. Insert key turn to IGN. Let the RPM gauge swing from 0-9000 and back to 0. Engage the clutch, depress the start button, continue holding the clutch in for at least 10 seconds until the air pump engages. (Works every time!)

Enjoy!

Dramatic temp changes can have an effect on idle speed. If your cars PCM established an idle speed at a given temp, and you try to start it at a dramatically reduced temp, stalling may happen. If you interrupted battery power for some reason, you will need to "re-learn" the PCM, to establish a new idle speed setting.
