Default Status of the Honda s2000?

I was just wondering how do you and people that you've talked to about your car feel about your s2k.

I've had many compliments and still do about mine. But I ran into a Boxster owner one day ( a base Boxster ) and he said " Nice car, but it's no Boxster." Like his car was the sh*t, WTF!!! " I told him that my car would outperform a boxster in every aspect and closer to the Boxster S. He just grinned and walked away. I have the utmost respect for the Boxster, but I was like " Ok, that's it, LET'S GO!!" I hopped in my car and followed him out of the parking lot right behind him and when we hit the stretch, he guns it knowing I'm there. Just to show him what my "It's no Boxster" Honda s2000 can do, I floor it too and eventually pass him. We had hit some nice turns through the mountain, and he couldn't keep up!

I've talked to numerous Boxster and Boxster S owners, and they all have much respect for my car as I have much respect for theirs.

So back to my original topic, where does the s2000 rank in terms of status? I love my car, but I don't disrespect any other sports cars. I love them all. I've had many people talk highly of the way that the car looks, and many passengers rave about the performance. But where does it stand?

And I hate when people calls my car- "Cute."

Honda has to earn that respect. They built the NSX and the world was in awed by it. Ferrari answered. Honda didn't play the next round. They built the S2000 and Porsche was shaken. They answered with the Boxster S. Do you think Honda will play the next round?

Ferrari and Porsche books are volumes of race wins. Honda had a good run in F1 years ago and in CART but how will they play the next round?

People like the Porsche owner are buying a recognized name and heritage for building super cars in limited numbers. You don't see dozen's of eighteen year olds running around in them. So, he's going to be smug even if you kick his butt in a road race. No different than the S2000 getting beat by some turbo-whatever tricked out car - even if beaten you'd think what the hey, its still no S2000.

Be careful driving fast in Hawai'i, the damn photo radar might get you!

I took my S2000 out of the garage this afternoon to test out my new shift knob. I drove around for about 30 minutes and went to costco to get gas. I had three people come up to me asking what type of car it was. I have Rick's Signature S badges on the car and wheels.

I think it is fun to get the questions and to start a nice conversation. I could care less if anyone called it cute, a miata or whatever else they can think of. Their comments don't matter to me. I enjoy MY car.

Don't worry about the Porsche owner. I saw 6 or 7 boxster on the way home, only 1 other S2000 and that is a fluke for me!

JT-KGY has it right. Who cares? Did you buy your car for its performance, or to improve your image?

Why worry what some car-stupid, gold-chain-chest-hair dentist thinks about your car? Next time it happens, ask about the newest expression of Porsche's great heritage, the Cayenne SUV. Ask when the Porsche Camry competitor will appear. Or ask how Porsche is doing in F1.

The cars are what they are (and IMO the Boxster is a very nice, but overpriced, car). "Heritage" is bullshit.

Run a copy of the Consumers Reports April, 2002 issue past your Boxster fans.

That high priced car ranks at the bottom of CU's reliability survey. Amazingly enough the S2000 ranks at the top.

Sorry... heritage is BS. I didn't buy my car for the heritage, nor will I get the "heritage" that comes with the car... nor will anyone else that buys a car.

oh.. and btw.. I just got my first oil change yesterday. $25.99 including tax. I hear oil changes are close to $900 on those "heritage" boxters.

Boxter? Nice car, not my car.

Umm ... errr... no.

As for the rest of the post -- who cares? Quite being so insecure.

As for the second post, I think I can honestly guess that neither Ferrari nor Porsche has ever done a damn thing in response to Honda.
