Probably glue used to hold it in place and just a circular area as a place hold... there shouldn't be anything special at all behind it...

There is nothing under the wheel, just SRS (airbag) System! The S2000 steering wheel is not like the old wheel on my old CRX! On the CRX, you pry off the "H" emblem and there is the lock nut for the steering inside the steering.

immediately under the badge is just the airbag cover just like the rest of the center section... The cover is perforated on the inside to allow it to split open when the airbag deploys. If you look closely, you can probably see an indented line going across the airbag cover...
