Default Stock shift knob alteration

Has anyone had the stock knob drilled out so it fits lower on the shaft? Do you think it could be done and align the pattern without the cinch nut?

I'm sure some handy person with access to a drill press has or will try this after reading this thread.

I wonder if you can do that with a tapper to tap the thread deeper. Most auto repair shops have the tools.

I don't mean to make things more difficult, but I've got the titanium knob.

Another thing to consider is a shorter lock nut. The stock one is pretty tall (about 12mm I think). Use a thin 3 or 4 mm nut, wind it all the way down. Then wind the stock knob on as far as it will go. You may not even have to redrill for 8 or 9 mm of decrease.

After that, consider drilling and taping, and possibly even machining some metal off the bottom of the knob.

use the knob without the locking nut. the alignment is off a little but it sits lower.

Is the titanium too hard for drilling and tapping?
