since I thought the car was stolen based on the thread title and it wasn't, I'm just curious...

if they had stolen the car (with the cover) would you have felt the same way as if the car was gone, and the car cover was left in your parking space?

Do you have many homeless people in the area? It's quite common for homeless people to steal waterproof motorcycle covers. They are quite fond of them, as the cover makes an excellent "back alley bivi bag". Stuff them with newspapers and you've got a great substitute for a down filled GoreTex sleeping bag. Maybe they wanted a king-size model?

It's more the feeling of being 'violated' whether it's a tire valve, antenna, car cover or the whole car which bothers me. If anyone have had their property stolen, they should understand the feeling.

actually.... if they have stolen the whole car it wouldn't be a bad thing. I figure the insurance book value is still around $30k. With that, I would purchase a 2002.

Also, I think information that comes out of forums like this could be used by others:
1. mark car covers
- to deter thief
- ID purposes when parked in public garage
2. petty thief such as a car cover IS covered by the garage insurance company with no deductible.... FREE RELPACEMENT!

sorry to hear about your theft.

Take your new cover to one of your local embroidery shops (the ones that do custom shirts, hats, etc.). Don't put your name on it or anything really personal, but "S2000" and maybe the last 4 digits of your VIN in 2" high letters would discourage people from grabbing it.
