my search on loctite did not work anyone have the number type of loctite used. I have some red #271. Might need to be stronger.
Thanks
There are essentially two types of Loctite threadlocker...red and blue. The blue is more of a stabilizer than a "locker". It can be defeated with hand tools. The red is more of a permanent bond and requires heat as well as tools to break its bond. So my guess is that red would prolly be the best at making it theft proof.

That's what I think. If they want parts of my S, I rather give them the whole car and get a new car with insurance money.
I don't want to burst your bubble, but if your 04 S is stolen your insurance company isn't going to give you enough money for a new one.

I never lock my S at work and I have a spare key in the secret comparment in case I need to go somewhere I can just jump in and drive away, rather than go up to my office to get the car key.
Won't insurance deny you claim and claim negligence on your part when the recover your car with the key in the ignition? Or is that just a myth I've heard?

i dont want to use locktite or whatever you guys are recommending becuase i dont want to irritate the theif, if someone is trying to steal it and finds it is not coming off, they are going to start yanking, id rather let them take it and be on their way then struggel and damage my paint/etc or get mad and kick the car and leave a dent etc... i guess my loss is their gain.. karama is a bitch..

If the theive has the key, it's still a valid theft. A family member could have access to your keys and take your car without permission and it would still be considered theft.

Loctite red can easily be broken free with a wrench. They're designed to defend against vibration, not intentional removal.

I believe Loctite has a product similar to JB Weld, which would probably be the only thing that could provide a significant obstacle to a thief. The problems there are that you would also have a hell of a time if you ever needed to remove it, and I would rather have a thief unscrew the antenna and leave than get frustrated with being unable to remove it and trash the rest of the car.
Like you said neither loctite is going to prevent a theft, but it will make it hard as hell for someone to get it off with their bare hands. Me thinks the majority of the antenna thefts are just that rather than a dedicated thief roaming a parking lot with a toolbox looking for antennas. The loctite would just be a deterrent.

JB Weld would be not good if you ever wanted to "add inches" to your...err..."mast"

Insurance will pay market value of the car plus some upgrades such as stereo and tax + license, not enough for MY05 and way less than SLK55 AMG. Regardless the thief get the car with OEM key or not.
It is fraud if I give the key to someone and ask that person to take it, to file a claim with insurance.

I just unscrew the antenna, and throw it in the trunk when I park.

It takes all of three seconds, and I never have to worry about having it stolen.

If it's hard for the thieves to remove, it will be just as hard for you to do it. Locktite doesn't sound like a good solution.

I can have McGard make custom antenna locks to go with my next order of Seat Locks, but they would cost A LOT more than a new antenna!

I think a new antenna is only about $12.

TR-S2K,
Why in heaven can you not keep your car keys in your pants' pocket? I have a seperate keychain for car and work/home. This way, my car keys are not too heavy for the ignition, and I can decide to leave one keychain and not the other (but I would never leave my car keys). Once, a coworker accidentally picked up my keys and left with them. I even asked her before she left if she had them...she ended up calling after she'd gone home. From then on...keys in pocket for me!
