Go on autotrader and search 100 miles of your zipcode. i had family that lived in naperville so that was the zipcode i searched from
here are the prices i found. i searched 2000-2002 s2000

02- 77k miles 16.8k dealer

02- 52k miles 16k private

00 - 90k miles 15.9k private

00 69k miles 15.8k dealer

02 74k miles 15.5k private

01 59k miles 15k private

i found ONE s2000 from a dealer that was just listed as an 01 with 64k miles @ $11,900 in "your area" which seems this is the car they are basing it off of lol.

hope this helps

unless you just purchased your car for 17k are you really taking a loss after depreciation? did you overpay? do you have your bill of sale?

If your policy allows, tell them you don't want money, you want them to replace the car with one like it, miles, condition etc.

I agree, fight it using some other autotrader ads to back yourself up. Here are some results of 00-03 S2000's within 100 miles of Chicago:

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...rch=true&Log=0

2000 w/ 43k - $15k
2002 w/ 51k - $16k
2001 w/ 59k - $15k
2001 w/ 64k - $12k (probably something wrong with this car, lol)
2000 w/ 68k - $16k
2002 w/ 73k - $15.5k
2002 w/ 77k - $17k
2000 w/ 90k - $16k
2000 w/ 94k - $13k
2002 w/ 115k - $12k
2002 w/ 123k - $11k

So they probably saw that outlier 2001 listed for cheap and said, "Hey we could probably get away with just giving him $12k LOL." cause insurance companies can be dicks like that. Obviously you should be getting more in the $15k-$16k range offers based on what is out there around you. I mean hell, guys are selling cars with twice your mileage for what they were offering you. Its ridiculous. I would print out all of those articles listed there and email every single one of them to your agent or whoever is handling your case.

^ This! Make sure they know that you are in no rush, and just want your car replaced with something comparable. This is why i make sure that i keep a good relationship with my insurance company. I always deal with someone local. To have a good relationship with your insurance agent is definitely something that will play in your favor (from experience). Very sad to see such a great example of a clean/low mileage ap1 in the wrong hands. Best of luck to you!
