Default Stolen seats not covered under comprehensive ins?

A couple days ago someone I know got his S2000 seats stolen and top slashed. Here the link below:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=310676

They live in a condo and this happened in a secure covered underground garage. Now the insurance company is saying because this happened at their residence, it's something that their home insurance company has to deal with. But the thing is, they rent the condo and they DON'T have home insurance. They're screwed!!!

Is it true what the car insurance company said? What can they do? $8000 of loss. Unless $8000 of bills fall out of sky and into their window, they're not gonna be able to afford fixing the car now. Are they screwed unless the cops are able to catch the thiefs and get the seats back?

It should be covered under comprehensive.

I question people that can afford an S2000 for their 16 year old, but are too cheap to buy renter's insurance.

I agree, this is part of the car.

If insurance doesn't cover it, cheaper seats can be had on ebay and here, hopefully not buying stolen seats

All insurance policies are different. If it were MY insurance policy, it would be covered under comprehensive.

I suspect their insurance company is just trying to screw them over.

They should:

1) read their policy
2) demand that it be covered
3) talk to their state insurance regulators
4) after they get it covered, switch to a better insurance co.
5) get renter's insurance

It doesn't pay to go with cheap insurance if they won't cover claims. Go with a reputible company even if it is more expensive.

Well, the kid obviously didn't pay for his S2000, but in all fairness he got the S2000 as a high-school graduation gift as he was admitted by Harvard and will start attending the school in September. They (him and his mom) have just moved to that area a week ago and are renting a condo. I guess for one reason or another they just have not gotten renter's insurance.

This is why you need to make sure you pick a reputable insurance company and not just what is cheapest. I work for Progressive Insurance and would have covered it unless there's something he's not telling us.

Hmmm,

I think we're missing something here. I'm having a tough time believing that their insurance policy has language excluding the seats from Comphensive coverage.
Did they have coverage in force at the time of loss? Did they they have comphensive coverage? Who is telling them its not covered? The agent or the actual adjuster from the insurance company?

I've never heard of an auto policy containing language that would exclude Comp coverage for stolen seats.

I suspect we are missing something here...

They talked to the insurance agent because the adjuster is apparently too busy to visit his car. They do have comprehsive coverage, and it's not that the coverage exclude the seats, but it's that the insurance agent said because of the location where the vandalism took place, home/renter's insurance should cover the damages.
