StoneGuard problems
My boss told me he wants to buy me the stoneguard product just to show how much he appreciates me... i did a little reading about stoneguard, and saw a thread about the headlight housing and breaking/cracking... my question is.. was that ever resolved? the post was a year old.
What do people think about SG?
Is it worth it
should i zaino first?

You should contact SCS2K to see how it turned out. The last I heard, he was still pretty pissed.
The actual product is a really good idea. I've had this stuff on my car for 18 months now and no complaints. I did the install myself so I didn't leave anything to chance. I think the issue was that the headlight was improperly cleaned prior to the film being put on. It may also have been something to do with the headlight film being too thick for this application and perhaps it was not installed using a "wet" install. A "dry" install would have seen the material stretch more than it should have been for this type of headlight. A combination of some or all of these factors along with the heat generated by the lights may have caused the problem. Those in the industry say NOT to use a thickness of more than 20 mil for headlights. I've got 40 mil on mine but I didn't do an install that "stretched" the material on. I've had no problems.
Stongard is only one of many such processes. Clear Bra, Xpel are 2 others. There are others out there, too. All pretty much use the 3M Scotchcal film. The differences are the computer program used to cut the patterns out and the expertise used to install the product. There is a really wide range of prices for this stuff. Do your homework or you'll pay too much. In this case, you do NOT necessarily get what you pay for. I paid about $300.00 Can. for the kit itself.
Yes, Zaino the paint first before applying the film. Also fix any chips you may have before you "hermetically" seal them under the film.

I have had 2 sets of SonGard on my S2000
1st had to be taken off due to car hitting my fender (all the spots with StonGard had no damages)
2nd had to be removed because I had a J's Racing front lip molded into my front bumper
now, I have no StonGard and a little over 2k miles since the bumper was painted (the installer didn;t custom make my kit in time for the OBX Run) and I have apx. 1 million chips on my front end.
My headlights are fine though (a little after 1-1/2 years) with StonGard
You can contact David Dearing 404-822-7490 he will take care of you

While the StonGard factory did a poor PR job on this board with the headlight problem with SCS2K, simply telling him the product didn't cause the problem. That was the end of the factory involvement. I have since seen 2 sets of S2000 headlights that have had the exact same problem (crazed lenses) here in Atlanta that NEVER had StonGard on them, so it appears the factory was right that this problem just happens to a certain percentage of these polycarbonate plastics.
I have had the product on my car for nearly 2 years and have no problems at all with the StonGard headlight covers.

I own a 2001 S2K and had StoneGuard installed shortly after I picked the car up. I have had excellent results. I have owned the car for one year and have 4,000 miles on it. The car has absolutely no dings, chips, or scratches. Most of the miles are at highway speeds on main highways with trucks and all.
Living near Seattle, I had StoneGuard installed at the factory in Bellvue, WA. Lots of cars are getting the treatment. While I was there, I saw lots of new Porches and BMWs in the lot waiting for their treatment.
I recommend the treatment for anyone wanting to protect the front of their car.

After doing an extensive amount of research of paint protection films I went with Armourfend. My experience on two cars, Boxster S and WRX has been that this product is far superior to the majority of products on the market. The materials are pretty much the same from all companies however Armourfend differs slightly. It is thinner which allows for a cleaner install. The most important aspect of this product is the cut patterns of the material as well as the quality of the installation. If the product is installed by somone who also tints windows installs stereos etc. your getting a halfass job. Armourfend is VERY PRICEY but it is one outstanding product that protects not just the front of the car but also the mirrors, door sills, front and rear wheel wells and even where your fingernails scratch the paint when opening the door! Bottom line: You get what you pay for Armourfend installation cost in Northeast: $Approx $1200.00
