Stongard: Does It Really Prevent Damage??
I just experienced 4,100.00 in damage (see my email under Pacific Northwest: Warning: I-90 Repaving Project!!) and have been given approval to proceed with paint, windshield replacement, etc.
I visited the Stongard dealership in Bellevue, WA and the product looks bullet-proof!! It's visible but fades from view at appx. 8 ft. Stongard has a $4,000.00 insurance policy against ANY penetration of the Stongard material and also carries a guarantee regarding installation. It's appx. $650.00 installed and I ask for widsom on this one.

STONGARD OWNERS:
I have seen several of these installed on different cars. The owners have said nothing but amazing things about them......I would like to know why someone wouldnt put it on. The are visible if you look carefully but I would have to say that is a very very small price to pay for the protection they give to the car....

Thanks for the reply; do you have any empirical data (doesn't work, yellows after time, etc. to support your statement of don't do it.
I'm being objective and need data.

Bruce - I haven't had any personal experience with Stongard or Invisishield, or any product of the like. However, most of the Volkswagens at the dealership I work at have some "Stongard like" film on them from the factory near the bottom of the rear door. It holds up well over time but the problem is, it's more noticeable on the lighter colors like silver or white. I was thinking about getting it but after seeing an example on my GP white, the lines were just too noticeable IMO. I may still do the mirrors though. Also, I was told that it comes off easily later on down the road...just by spraying on some kind of solution. Also, any long term use will not cause the covered areas to be discolored or less faded than non-covered areas.
Good luck either way.

Stongard is actually a 3M product called Scotchcal. Check out the link below:

IMO, the edge of the film is not that noticable, here is a picture from 3M's website:
