I just sold my NSX that I had for 3 years and will be buying a 2002 S2000. The NSX is the finest Sports Car ever built IMO, an exotic, jem of jems, you would love it.
I am buying a new 2002 for I am retiring to Florida at 50 years young and the new car will be more economical and the convertable will be fun.
Love the NSX though, very reliable.

I sold my '91 NSX (black/black) about a year before I got my S. I was the original owner. It had low miles and was in perfect condition.

1) sorry aiphanes, the NSX is clearly faster than the S2000 and has far better low end throttle response. It is also more exotic IMO.

2) I was disillusioned about the depreciation of my NSX but now I know it is very rare any car will maintain it's value over time (including the S2000). It is likely that the '91 NSX has already lost considerable value and, in terms of percentage, will not depreciate as much as a new S2000 - especially if it is properly cared for.

3) You will find old NSX's with low mileage in excellent shape if you look. Most of the original owners were compulsive fanatics (not unlike what you find here).

4) The real factor to consider is this: Do you want a ROADSTER? Then get the S2000. If you don't care about life with a convertible, then your decision is much more difficult.

its kind of a loaded question depending on which board you ask. ask over at nsxprime and they say get the nsx. come over here and ask and we say get the s2k. it seems as though there are a quite a few on this board that had to make the same decision. i love both cars, but "new" and "factory warranty" were the reasons that i am here. another is, if i buy an nsx i am getting at least a 97, which i cant quite afford right now. i still read the nsx boards...cause maybe in a few years i will have both that said...its just a decision that YOU have to make. either way, you cant go wrong!

BrianB, I think you hit the nail on my head .

that said...its just a decision that YOU have to make. either way, you cant go wrong!
I too read NSXPrime quite a lot and yes most posters/members are biased towards the NSX but much like here they are honest and speake from experience and PERSONAL (not peer pressured ) opinions.

I thank you all for your responses.

As a result I am as equally undecided as when I posted the thread but now a lot more comfortable in the fact that which ever I may choose I won't be setteling or missing out. (i.e. I am confident of the reliability of the used NSX and the performance and many praises of the Stook.)

Thanks again.

Is it a lot more expensive to maintain the NSX?

If you want a weekend car, the NSX is it. If you want a daily driver, get the S2K. I've had both (still have the S2K) and love(d) them equally otherwise. Good luck!!!

I've only driven an NSX once; belonged to a friend. After that I was spoiled for every other car--until I drove the S2000. The Stook is more fun. I hope to have a used NSX too, someday--now that the wife is getting into this idea more. She's talking about getting a place where I can have a barn for my car collection. Sounds OK to me.

I have driven two NSX's (92 and 95) about 3000 miles and logged some time in the S2K. This is a tough question. As for depreciation of the NSX when the new one comes out? I bet it will appreciate the same it did with the V8 Lotus Espirit came out. People could not afford the new one, so bought a used one. And, also, the current rumor is the it will STILL be a V6. The car is 10 years old, but generally regarded as one of (if not THE) best sports car in history. It is certainly not the fastest, most expensive, or best handling - but it is probably the best rounded. The S2K is a wonderful car. The NSX is a little more exotic. As for maintenance, both these cars are a rock. I would say if you have to have a convertible, go with the S2K for obvious reasons! If you like a super rare car (even more so than the S2K), then go with the NSX. You have many years left to own them both!!

If you do go with the NSX (very different car) try to find one of the later models. (six speed/295HP/bigger wheels).

I also think the clutch on these (+'96) (one of the most expensive maintenance repairs on the NSX) is a single disc which is a couple of hundreds less.

If you are really performance oriented. Try to find a Hardtop (not T-Top). The newer the harder to find.

As posted by other it's a very personal choice but I really love both cars and wouldn't mind having both. Recently I had a Blue NSX on loan for test driving and looked really nice next to my Silver/Black S2K. The bad part is deciding which one to take to work every morning!
