Default Stook or NSX???

Hello S2000 fans and owners.

This is my first post to this board as I have only recently registered, however I have been reading it for a while.

My question to you is: Should I be looking to get a new S2000 or a 1991/1992 NSX?

I am a big fan of both cars and have looked at each but it is near impossible to get a drive in one if you don't plan on buying right away (I plan to pick up one or the other when I return my current car from its lease in 22 months!). That is a long time I know, don't remind me. I thought maybe a bunch of you either own/owned or have driven both.

Factors to consider:

In two years the new NSX will be out. I don't know if depreciation is a factor for you but it certainly kept me from getting an M Coupe (old 240 hp engine vs. new 320 hp, and basically no other changes) over the S2000.

Also, it depends if you mind paying $30,000 (maybe more around $25,000 by then) for a 12 year old car. Maybe the six speed will be a little more affordable by then?

In two years time I'm sure you'll have been able to test drive both cars plenty so it probably won't be the problem you might think it is.

Kinda OT:

I sat in one for the first time this weekend. A '91 with all sorts of mods on it. For the interior he had a TV and racing seats and all sorts of stuff (a custom 8" sub right between the driver and passenger). I didn't realize the shifter was so short (about as short as an S2000's) and the pedals so close and far to the right, like a Viper's or a Diablo's. Now I want one too. Click on the picture below if you want to see the exterior. I really love the wing, although it does look a lot better in person.

Thanks for the replies jws626 and BB AP1. From what I have heard about the NSX from speaking to owners and dealers is that so long as you get a good model (i.e. no transmission snap ring problem) all that you should need is a new clutch at 50K and a set of tires every 8,000 miles.

Your thoughts?

You should do a search for this topic, it comes up every few weeks. You'll find lots of info you're looking for. Good luck.

Nimbus, I tried searching and found only a few results including the term 'NSX'. If you know of any specific thread I would really appreciate the link and/or your opinion on the result of the discussion.

Thanx

Seems like the search function doesn't search back very far. Maybe it has something to do with the new forum software change.

Anyway, here's a good thread from the NSXCA forums: http://www.nsxsc.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000296.html

NSXSC forum and NSXPRIME are good places to visit if you're interested in the NSX.

Get a S2000...The NSX at 1991 to 1992 is an OLD car...Screw old...you want new and the S2000 is just as fast as the early NSX.

Thanks Nimbus, I also read NSXprime forums quite a lot and found a lot of the same guys posting on the nsxca forum. I had not read that thread before and found it informative from the point of view of NSX owners.

Thanks everyone for your time I guess I should just go in search of some test drives.
