Stook vs. Yamaha R6
I grew up riding dirt bikes. I rode street bikes until I had kids, when I decided to quit while I was ahead. I got back into dirtbike riding (riding hare scrambles and enduros), figuring I would be more likely to break a bone, but less likely to kill myself. I rode my first hare scrambles in eight years this spring (I'm 38). I just hit 600 miles on my s2000 (love that 9000) and it's as close as I can get to a street bike with 4 wheels.
Hey, *I* need a bike AND a stook!
Good looking beginner bikes I like...
Honda GB500
Honda 400/4
Suzuki SV650S
less attractive, but good for beginners:
Suzuki GS500
Suzuki SV650
Yamaha Seca II
any dirt bike if you have the height to flat foot
The SV650 (and S) is more on the high end since they started coming last year and still demand a pretty penny. But they're excellent bikes with room to grow.

I'm a huge cycle fan..
One of the things I like about the S2K is that it delivers an experience similar to carving a corner on a motorcycle without the helmet, leathers and opportunity for other stupid drivers to kill you as easily...
'00 S2K
'95 BMW R1100GS
'97 Honda XR400R

I bought my S2000 to take the place of my bikes. I've been roadracing motorcycles for the seven years in WERA, GLRRA, CCS, and AMA Pro. There really is nothing like it but you can't do it forever. I recently was married so I figured I need to be more careful now.
After breaking my pelvis, arm, foot and two vertebrae I've decided it's time to take a break(break hehe) and be normal for a while. A added benefit is the closing of the racing blackhole which sucks up all your money!
I think a couple track days with the S2000 would be fun and a lot less expensive. Just have to wait for spring.

I don't ride motorcycles, but I used to ride dirt bikes when I was a kid. I was trolling around Road America's web site just now and found some shots of bikes in deep doodoo at RA over the past couple of years. I don't know the outcome or circumstances of these wrecks, but OUCH...! Looks hairy...!
Not sure why I thought you guys might like this, but...here goes anyway. Chowbox, dude, sorry to hear of your wreck. Most people are so unaware on the road...I hope you are all fixed up now.
Wrecks, if you dare!

The exhilaration that you get from "two-wheeled" fun is far more than anything "four-wheel" fun can give. However, you can't get something for nothing. I got "compressed discs, broken collar bone, broken leg, arm, shoulder, road rash, etc. Anyway, "its better to burnout than to fade away..." words that I USED to live by.
