Two weeks ago, a co-worker said that he had talked a Honda dealership down to $31,200 on a brand new 2001 yellow stook and I didn't believe him. I told him that was an excellent price (if true). He said they had 6 in stock.

Yesterday I spotted 2 Honda ads from the Sunday Globe (dated 4/30) for S2000s under MSRP. One was for $30,626 (they had 4!) and another for $32,000. I thought that you could probably get a new stook for slightly under MSRP, but under $31K?

I guess demand is coming down... at least in New England.
Anyone else heard of stooks under MSRP?

It sounds like these dealers who were greedy enough to get a lot of stooks have not been moving them quite as fast and for as much money as they first thought they could. I guess they've decided they'd rather discount them a little rather than continue to pay the floor plan interest that accrues monthly. Serves 'em right!

Tim,

You must be referring to the Cambridge Honda ad that listed an S2k at $30,636. That is somewhat of a misnomer as I have actually followed up on that ad.

It seems there is only one S2k available at $30,636 and while it is "brand new" the right rear quarterpanel has been repainted due to a parking attendant backing up into it. While the paint job is perfect and the actual damage very minor to begin with, that car has been sitting on the lot since January 19th and has been the main test drive vehicle. It's not a vehicle I would particularly like to own given the fact that it has been test driven extensively and has sat on the lot for a long time.

I inquired about "new" S2k's and was quoted MSRP with the exception of Silver/Red which is going at $2000 over MSRP and has not even arrived yet.

Honda Cars Boston seems to have a few S2k's lying around and when I spoke with a salesperson three weeks ago, he said that the manager would be receptive to selling it under MSRP, but that was before the beautiful weather set in.

However unrealistic this may be given the time of year, i'm still hoping to find a vehicle for $1000-$2000 under MSRP in the heat of convertible season which still leaves the dealer with over $1000 profit which is considerable for any Honda.

I just bought my Yellow S2K from Harden County Honda for
under MSRP, they are located in Radcliff KY about 30 min
outside of Louisville KY. They have a hard time selling
any hondas because people out that way want Ford Trucks
and Chevy camero, so im sure if you called them and wanted
to make the trip, they would be more than happy to sell
one under MSRP. If any interested, email, and I'll get you the phone # and the guy to talk to.

Rev 2 Liv,

my buddy said that the yellow he was dealing on was 'brand new' for $31,200. They let him drive it from one of their storage lots to Cambridge Honda.

As it turns out, I did buy mine from Cambridge and I believe it was the first one they had let go at MSRP. That was April 14th last year.

Getting a stook at well under MSRP is possible to do. How do I know? I did it. A little over a month ago, I got my 01 Yellow Stook for $31K w/rear spoiler & security system.

You just have to know how to ask for it!!! Never pay over MSRP for a stook! Unless you're in southern California!

Got mine in Manchester, NH at Autofair Honda. $500 under MSRP. That is what they sell them for all the time. They have three left for the season. E-mail me if you need the name of salesman & Phone #. I had a very positive buying experience there.

Be weary of some dealer's advertising at $2,000 below MSRP for a new S2000.....I checked one of those ads out last November and found out that the "new" one they had for that price was a demo, never registered, so therefore, still "new"...I passed and bought a real new one (MY 2000) for $32,000 with the floor mats, aero screen and wheel locks thrown in, from another dealer.
