maybe put some desiccant packets inside the plastic wrapped exhaust to absorb the humidity out of the trapped air?

Call it experience. Not worth the hassle of trying (and most likely failing) to preserve something that is almost cheap and easily obtained. Especially by putting it in the backyard of your girlfriend's mother's house. You stand a 95% chance of having this used against you by one of these women at some point in the future. Not worth hearing about it.

the system is almost all stainless steel including the interior muffler parts which are triple layered in stainless, so they don't rust overly easily. Spray it down with a light oil and wrap it , should store well.

Agree with the oil or with anti-seize.

Wrap it in shrink wrap and throw a bunch of desicant salt packs in there. These are the packs they put in HID headlights to keep out moisture. Also come in boxes of new shoes and things like that.

^ I think you mean "silica gel", if I'm not mistaken.

I agree that wrapping might be more than necessary to protect something that is designed to be "out in the elements", but adding dessicant (e.g., silica gel) is way overkill.
