Default ?!?strange?!?

Okay, well i've posted this before, and it's about the 4th gear pop out. I'm just curious to who has this problem aswell? I brought my car into Honda today and they took it for 3 test drives as they said(i checked my trip meter and the 3 "test drives" were only 3 kms...that is crap!!) and they told me that they couldnt find a problem. This is stupid!!

Anybody get their's fixed? i really need help.

I know how you feel.
After over two years of owning my S2000, I figured that it's better to know exactly what's wrong first. Then tell the technician of service advisor. They know what to look for, and that you've done your homework.

Give them symtoms, and they tell you it's nothing.

Give them symtoms along with the cause, and they fix it.

Mine jsut started to pop out of fourth, and I will bring in the car for that and the third gear kick-back.
That pisses me off.

It will probably be a while before I get this done, so don't hold your breath.

When I put it into third, it feels like the shifter comes into contact with something hard and then slps over it and into gear.

Very violently I might add, and it keeps getting more frequent.

Service tech and advisor already said that was normal, so I'm going to try and find the problem first.

i have had this problem and got it solved. the mechanic i deal with at the honda dealership was great. he checked with honda to find out more about my problem...even before seeing my car and ordered the parts in advance. he told me that honda is aware of the situation but that since its not a safety concern...they won't recall it.
tell me if this is what happens to you....you shift into fourth and then while driving steady...all of a sudden it pops out into neutral...or while driving in fourth you hit a bump and it pops out. the latter never happened to me but the former did...not constantly but a couple times a week...then up to a couple times a day.
what my mechanic had to replace was the mainshaft 3rd and 4th gear sets.
oh, and he told me that it was common in MY02's later in production...mine is #7342.
let me know if this helps.

wow thank you very much jcr9, well yeah that is exactly what happens to me, however when i drive the car a bit more agressively it does not pop out of gear, so i have no clue what is the cause of the problem?

When i did talk to the dealership, they told me that this was not a common problem and in fact they said "i have never heard of this problem before." So i guess, i'll just try to find out what causes this popping out, and maybe i'll demand a test drive with me in the car at the same time.

thank you very much for your help.

Anyone else out there with the same problem?

F20C, you might do better to post this in with the gearheads in the "Under Hood" forum. Bunch o' guys there are really knowledgeable and might have some insight. Jcr's fix / diagnosis might be correct though.

I don't recall reading anything about this kind of problem around here recently though... Your car must be pretty dang new, though! Frustrating, eh??? Gears popping out during driving is NOT normal behavior.

Best wishes.
