Default Strange knocking noise

Hi guys am I just done?! Got back home from the movies last night and right as got off the freeway I noticed this clicking. It didn’t affect the cars performance at all but because I heard that noise I didn’t want to floor it anymore and just wanted to get home.

Once I got home I did notice that my intake box had one of the wires disconnected and the connector piece had fallen inside of the intake and been rattling around. I was very hopeful that this was the sound I was hearing but then after I put everything back on and started her the sound was still like this.

very very lost tbh , I understand this is apart of the game especially when you buy a used car but it genuinely didn’t seem like something like this could happen anytime soon. Car was literally driving and sounding perfect about 2 hours before I left to go to the movies so this is very very strange.

I did notice that there was basically no oil when I checked the dip stick this morning even though I just got the oil changed about 3 weeks ago when I got the original issue fixed up( electrical issue from alternator ) and this brought me to believe that for whatever reason it was just really really low on oil and is knocking because of that?

I bought a quart of oil to add into the engine just to see if that would hopefully get things lubricated enough to stop the clicking but no luck. I did see a little tiny dot on my dipstick after putting the quart of oil in though so maybe I didn’t add enough for everything to be lubricated?

I am not as naive as it seems I promise. I’m pretty sure it’s just ****ed and I need a new engine but I’m trying to stay positive and not feel like I just spent 10k on garbage )))))).

oh and no check engine light for anything as well

If you let the oil run low enough, you probably caused a lot of damage. That doesn't mean it was a used car problem. Its just a "let the oil run low" problem.

I would stop running the engine.

Add oil until its within the necessary range on the dipstick.

Check the oil. Does it look silvery or metallic?

You know you are very likely correct! Although I did just get the oil changed about 3 weeks ago I should have still been all over it considering these things burn oil quickly.
I just topped the oil off and check the color and it was a silvery color which is definitely darker than what it normally is but I'm guessing that's because I added new oil into some old oil?
Definitely not noticing any metallic shavings or color though.

You may want to drain whatever is left and inspect it. Maybe send a sample for analysis. I wouldn't run it until you have a good look at the oil and perhaps the oil filter, too.

Good luck!

Silver color is metal shavings. I'm guessing whomever did your oil change didn't fill it all the way. Did you see the oil pressure light turn on at any point?

If that's what you're seeing, you need an engine. Check eBay or consider a K series swap.

Cut open oil filter, check vtec solenoid filter. Always check both sides of dipstick. One quart is not hard burn in a few tanks. Engine damage will
occur long before low oil pressure light illuminates from my experience

Sounds like maybe you just need to keep this simple initially. Suggest drain the oil into a clean container. Then strain that oil through some kind of filtering element, like cheesecloth. At this point, you are trying to see if you have any metal debris in your oil. If you do, that's probably going to be a sign that running low on oil has resulted in some bearing damage.

So just do that for now and you will at least have some good data to work with.

Coffee filter works for this.

Agree w the approach. If no shavings found, use soke of the unfiltered oil for an oil analysis.

Its imperative you drain into a perfectly clean container if any of it is going to be sent to lab for analysis.
