Slow warm up with no load on the car is best. (Idle)

Second best is to start out slow untill oil warms up.

Idle is the WORST, it takes longer to warm the oil so you are circulating sludgy frozen oil, it's best to DRIVE it, start, and drive it right away (30 seconds or so warm up), just take it SLOW.

That's an excellent article, everyone should read it and take it to heart.

How did you finally get in your S? locksmith?? called a loved one/friend to get you your spare???

I got an aftermarket alarm, and the pager remote itself is ($90) so I only got one. But the installer did ask me if I wanted an auto start for my S. He did told me that it's my option to have it install for free w/ the alarm install, but he adviced against it. It would only take few min of his time, but he told me it actually has an ill-effect on the engine if you let it warmup and idle. Also, most manuals, he adviced against it b/c if you left your car in gear, it would "jump start" literally...
He installs the same alarms on NSX's and other high end sports cars, and I actually saw NSX at his shop when he was putting my system in.

Hope you got into your car ok, and good thing you warned others about your mishap.

I was not really buying the article posted, but then I read that idling the car is harmful to it.... turn your car off and restart it if you will be idleing for more than 10 secs.

Does this guy really think that idleing the car for 10 seconds at a drive-thru is WORSE than restarting the car? What an idiot.

I agree that people should not leave their cars running for 20+ mins. However, 3-4 minutes is NOT a bad thing. While I can see where the oil might take a LITTLE longer to heat up than the coolant the idea that the oil will be cold under idleing is silly. The same thing thing that is heating up the oil is also heating up the coolant.

locksmith $40, kills me that I haven't gotten around to signing up for AAA.
I have no plans to drive the car hard at all this time of year, too much random ice, I just hate getting in a cold car. I still don't see how letting your car idle for 5 minutes does any harm other than waste gas, which isn't that big of deal anyway.

Reaching in and turning someones car off is a little extreme
