Just to be clear, I'm not avocating that its OK to have bald tires and drive in the rain.
My whole point in this thread is that:
- I live in Orlando where it has been raining almost everyday.
- I DD the S2000.
- My rear tires are pretty bald.
Yet, I never come close to losing it while driving in the rain.
It you lose it in the rain, don't blame it on the rain.
More than likely, its the driver's fault.
Take responsibility in your action.
Anyway, I plan on changing the rears pretty soon.
But if I do lose control before I change the tires, you won't see me blaming it on the rain.
Understood. Just as long as you know, it could happen to anyone even if they are careful drivers.

While the title of the thread is "stupid raid" I didn't blame the rain for my accident, but it's unlikely it would have happened on a dry road. I've driven on snow, ice and rain for many years. I've had two minor accidents in over 35 years of driving. The accident in the S was quite the experience. All the arm chair quarterbacks were not there when anyone's accident happened. Of course human/driver error is often a factor, but even the most experienced driver can have an accident in any weather; sometimes sheit just happens. BTW, that's why they are called accidents.

Driving on bald tires makes no sense at all......you are tempting the fates.

I am glad I am in the UK and see plenty of wet conditions.

I refuse to believe that lifting off the throttle put your back end around. In a straight line? I think gradually lifting off the throttle is the generally accepted recovery for aquaplaning in a straight line.

If it was on a corner then it is simply a case of you were going too fast. Puddles do not form instantly. Something missing from this story I think.

I have read similar threads where people span the car accelerating in a straight line in the rain. It should read "Mashing my foot into the ground in 1st all the way up to the redline in the rain"

Respect the conditions and you will be fine. Until the day comes where my S spontaneously does something random in the face of physics and logic I will not accept that accidents like this can "Just happen" and that its pot luck whether this random unavoidable occurrence happens to me or not.

Not what else needs to be said, but what should not be said... such as - Shit happens, nothing could be done to stop it.

That clearly is not the case.

I some what agree with sin. You have to be doing something you shouldn't have done to spin out./. like going to fast for the conditions or w.e

yeah, Texas kinda sucks for rain...

was driving across country during a pretty massive storm and hit some standing water and hydroplaned across a lane. Are the roads not designed to channel water AWAY from the roadway?

if your seats didn't end up missing during the accident, then the car will not be totaled. Just make sure you find a GOOD shop that works on LUXURY cars and have them do the repairs.. Hopefully your Ins allows this option.. In MI, you can take ur car to what ever shop you like for repairs.
