stupid windshield
hey, a few weeks ago I got my windshield replaced because it had some cracks in it. A few days after it was replaced it cracked again near the bottom on the drivers side, nothing hit the windshield, there were no chips or anything on it. I called the place that put it in, they said it sounded like a stress crack and they would replace it. later I called them back to see when they wanted me to come in and they said they were not going to replace it because it was an expensive windshield and the company they get the them from did not want to replace it. After I called them for a few days they said they could get me a new windshield but I would have to pay for the labor, I said thats cool. So they put the new one in and everything was ok. about 3 weeks later it is cracking in the same place and nothing ever hit it no rock or anything. Do you think I should try to get them to replace it again? I dont think they will do it because I had such a hard time getting them to do it the first time. I didn't use my insurance because the deductable is high. thx for the help.

What brand of glass did you get. When my windshield cracked, my insurance tried to set me up with Safelite. Since I had heard too many bad stories, I had the shop that the 2 local Honda Dealers and the nearest independent Honda repair center recommended. They were in the preffered list for my insurance, so it cost me $100 to replace it. They came to my home and fixed it in 30 min. w/ a genuine PPG (Honda gets their glass from PPG) with genuine Honda S2000 seals. You have to be careful - Safelite, the largest national chain is the preferred company for almost all car insurance companies. They manufacture their own glass (poorly) and they use aftermarket seals. This means that they can charge the insurance company less to replace glass. The local franchise had to come out 3 times to fix their work on my friend's Corvette. The seals didn't fit. and they left glue residue all over his dash.
Call your insurance and complain. Next time get a windshield rider on your insurance. Then find out where your dealers have their glass replaced. Take it there. More likely than not, they'll also be on the insurance company's list.

Same thing happened to me in the exact same place a few days ago on my OEM glass... No chip or anything, just looks like a stress crack. It's grown from about 3 inches to 8 inches already!!!!!!!!
I got a quote for $306... gahhhh
