Stylish Boxster S
Oh well. Haven't posted for awhile. But the boxster duma$$, requires some homey type awakening. As I post, I have three porsches, 356B, 912 Targa and 911 Coupe sitting in the garage. These are all cars designed by Ferry and his son, Butzi. I've owned them for over 25 years. I've also been a member of PCA for nearly 30 years and have a small library of eveything Porsche incuding 30 years of Panorama, the club magazine. I've dealt with lots of Porsche people (at least the ones who know more about the cars that just driving them) in rebuilding, restoring and maintaining these cars all these years, without ever having to go in for service.
To cut to the chase, I would never buy another. Porsches are no longer in a class by themselves. Just look around at how many other brands now have models that compare favorably with Porsche's newest models - from the new corvettes, our own S2Ks and the acura nsx and bmw. All you have to do is get ahold of any recent Porsche club magazine and immediately the huge downturn in Porsche racing is noteable as the membership's major concern. And there's no immediate hope for the future. This is a company that hangs its corporate hat on its racing program. BMW beat the guys from Stuttgart up badly last year. And Porsche belatedly now joins the SUV market.
Finally, just like to point out that the boxster is NOT a car that Ferry Porsche would have designed- simply because no real engine access is available. Give me a Porsche 904 anyday. The boxster was apparently designed, knowing that anyone paying that much for a vehicle never would want more than a superficial level of awareness about the vehicle, and of course short on the desire to touch a vital part. As for the 993/996 line, what have they done to my 911/912? Again, a totally different type purchaser than those that purchased Porsche vehicles in the past.
So here I sit with the best sportscar that I've ever owned - a HONDA. I love it like life itself. And it gives me a certain pleasure to be out on the road blowing off just about every Porsche that I come across with the rare exceptions of a few late models. It may well be that Excellance was Expected is truly a past tense for Porsche.

Well after reading this thread I am convinced boxster rules is full of $%#@ on what he owns. He is just to ignorant to purchase either one of these cars. My advice to you is stop watching star trek reruns. Move out of your parents basement. Take you 82 dodge aries rust bucket and go find a job you loser. Btw both boxster s and s2000 are world class cars. I just prefer to own the better looking car and take my extra 30,000 saved and own and SUV for the winter with plenty of cash to spare. I have said it once I will say it again. People who own s2000's own them because that is what they want. Most people who own Porsche do it because that is what others will be impressed with

I started this thread as a FRIENDLY jab at a buddy who just happens to own the car in question (and yes, he did have a hearty laugh which I thought I'd share). There was no act of vadalism, as some have suggested, and we could care less about dragging a finger through a little dust. (Yes, I have noticed that I'm in the minority on that one).
We're (mostly) all grown-ups here that can recognize that it truly would be a boring world if there was only one brand of car, fast food, airline, clothing, etc. We buy brands that make us happy, and thank god there IS variety.
So, as this thread quickly approaches the lowest common demoninator, I think it's time to clean up my photo album
For those that saw the humor in that photo, Cheers to you, that's what it was about! For those that didn't, sorry you take yourself (and/or car) so serious
(Life's to short IMO).
Best Regards to all.
