You can dream about a Japanese Nascar NSX successor all you want, at least some Japanese manufacturers are still making sports cars despite "changing technology" and "strict laws".
MX-5
RX-8
GTR
370Z
WRX/STI
EVO
and the upcoming Toyotas
I think instead of "look outside the box", you mean look outside the brand.

I think Mike has posted up an interesting video which like does a good job to support Honda's recent and continuing efforts in the sports car sagment. If you want to say it's not so or proves nothing or won't happen; lend me your crystal ball. I have stocks to buy shortly

BC thanks for the video!
[QUOTE=Saki GT,Dec 20 2010, 06:55 PM]I don't know the financials of the companies and I'm not going to say your point is not valid, but I've never bought a car based on the fiscal health of its manufacturer.
The S2000 was my first Honda because of what it was - not a typical Honda.

I was told Honda doesn't want to pay the fines for non-Cafe cars. Hence why they are changing their lineup.

That is very different from Honda using it as a rolling test bed for a new supercar - that would be like saying the current NASCAR Chevy is going to guide the next production car - its a body shell to carry stickers more than anything.

I'm sure you guys all seen this before, but here is one of my ALL time favorite video, tribute to Mr. Senna. (He worked directly with Mr. Uehara).
If you have not seen this video, turn up the volume.

Of the list that you presented, only 1 of those manufacture is listed as one profitable/top 10 company, (and very slim profits, with massive layoffs) is Nissan.
Mazda, Suburu, and esp. Mitsubishi is not even on the top ten.
But back to the topic of sports car. Yes, you are right we don't have anything to turn to right now. The focus is shifting right now, to "sustain" profitbility in this recesssion period.
When the fruits starts to grow again, perhaps Honda will put out a replacement or us (which is a small, small, very small group of people) or another flagship car (no money is going to be made here, like the LFA).
Until then, that makes our S2000 even more special.

Honda introduced the NSX concept in 1984, six years before the NSX eventually debuted for sale. Assuming Honda is waiting for a better economy and starting from scratch, its typically at least three years to develop a car. Waiting for a better economy to be here is pointless because who knows what the next three years will hold. If this is what Honda is doing, it is a real shame. Honda used to be much more inventive and created markets rather than waited for them.
With its current efforts invested in the just released Odyssey, the 2011 Civic, and the 2012 Accord, plus its next generation of engines, maybe eventually you'll see something from Honda that resembles a sports car again. In the mean time there are plenty of options from pretty much every other automaker out there.
My friend's grandma's son-in-law's future daughter knows (not knows KNOWS, like an acquaintance) the assistant parts cashier at the Honda dealership (THE Honda dealership). The next S2000 will be 2400 lbs, manual only, and have a turbo inline 6.
Tell EVERYONE.
Tell EVERYONE.
