I'm getting a comptech s/c soon and I was just wondering whether it will effect the trade-in value of the S. I'm saving up for the 97+ NSX and will definitely get it as soon as this Christmas or spring of next year. Most definately I'll be looking for a trade-in, but I'm hoping that the dealer will not devalue my S due to the S/C.
Any inputs/opinions will greatly appreciated.

I'd be taken that thing off before trying to trade it.
You'll most likely get more selling SC kit separate.

Also, in the meantime, if your SC causes anything to happen to the engine that you may suspect may be a RESULT of the SC, you might want to think about un-bolting it before you get the engine serviced, otherwise the presence of the SC may show up in the service history.

"Failed #4 cylinder. Suspect owner-installed SC..."

Would kill your resale, at least as much as witholding service history would.

Unless you find someone specifically looking for an already SC'd car, you are likely to have a resale value that is less than that of a car with no SC. I've seen this happen with a bunch of NSX's with SC's and turbos (unless they are new from the dealer that way or if someone wanted one like that).

Most buyers would think an SC or TC'd car has been thrashed harder. And many who would want an SC would rather do it themselves. The number of buyers looking for a used car with an aftermarket SC or TC are fewer - hence the potential lower resale value or difficulty in selling.

It all has to do with supply and demand.

Not to mention you have voided the ballance of the warranty and pretty much guaranteed that the dealer won't be able to offer any on the car when he resells it if he touches it at all.

Young,

Go ahead and get the SC, bolt it up, and when you're ready to buy the NSX, let me know. I'll take the SC off your hands, you can trade in your S2K without any of the above mentioned worries, and I'll have an SC'd S2K....win/win/win situation.....oh yeah, then you can give me a ride in the NSX, almost forgot about that one .

Luder, if you're ever in Phoenix I'll take you for a ride in a supercharged NSX and S2K.

Why bother with a SC on your S2K since your going to be trading the car in in 8 months to a year!?!

I was thinking of letting the dealer installing my s/c, but I guess it's not a good idea. Since SilverFox stated that the dealer might note that my car is s/c on their comp, I think it's best not to let the dealer know.

That's right, you want one too. . We definitely can work out something in the future. Don't worry, I'll take good care of the S/C for you, and feel free to take a cruz in it anytime. :b

That's another 8+ months from now. Summer is around the corner and I need something to keep me busy. I guessing that I'm just a speed-freak, and I want to enjoy the power of a s/c'ed S before going to its big brother the NSX.

Careful,

I may take you up on that offer and just book a cheap ATA Flight down to Phoenix just to get the two rides.

Hell, I just checked prices, it'd be cheaper for me to fly down to Phoenix and put myself up into a hotel than to take a long drive to my "local" Six Flags Great America amusement park, get two tickets, get food at the park, and drive back.

SCS2K,

I'm there...let's plan something!!!
