Default Supercharger

My Comptech supercharger made a significant improvement in the performance of my S2000. I feel the difference off the line and when VTEC kicks in wow...The slight whine of the charger is noticeable just off idle and there is quite a roar from under the hood and out the exhaust at WOT. All in all I am quite pleased with this unit!

I'll be reporting on mine this week. I've had the SC for a month, but have been waiting to get 3500 miles on car. I'm taking the car to St. Andres tomorrow (Monday). I have experienced a SC S2000, but this will be a before/after comparison with my own car. I will also be interested in how the car drives everyday, not just VTECing on the freeway. Wonder what it will do to my consistent 30 mpg.

The one question that I have for which I have not been able to get a definite answer is that do you SC guys feel the need to PRE-EMPTIVELY upgrade parts of your tranny and driveline??

For example and high rpm drops once you are SC'ed will be murder for the already crappy stock clutch - so do you guys think it is a wise bet to upgrade your clutch before or at the same time as your SC install.

In addition, if you get a clutch that grips well, your diff will start suffering as Wesmaster's example proves.

Basically my question is that is it better/smarter to get stronger tranny and driveline components before or at the time of SC install or should you wait for them to break instead.

Or instead, can the stock tranny and driveline comfortably bear the added stress of SCing and is just the rare case where something downstream breaks??

I would really appreciate input from you guys on this. Thanks.

I hope SCS2K responds to this. I don't remember him having any such problems on his car. Maybe it's the way he drives. I don't think this car can take repeated drag race starts even without a SC. Once under way, though, I think it should be able to take it.

It all comes down to what you do with (and to) the car... Examples:

SCS2K has no other major modifications and reports and excellent dependability record

I have no clutch/transmission/differential modifications and the car runs perfectly and dependably. However, I do not "street drag race" at stop light, I don't do quarter mile runs at the local drag strip, and seldom "launch" above 3000rpm

Wesmaster is a man on a mission: He wants to see how fast his car can run... so he required several drivetrain upgrades.

I have no plans for changing the clutch until I wear out mine (considering I put on 3 - 5000 miles a year, it could be a while).

My question: how is everyone's boost "check valve" working? Mine sticks the first 5 times I use 1/2 throttle or greater above 4000 rpm... extremely annoying.

I've got over 11,000 supercharged miles on an otherwise stock drive train (18,000 + miles total). Stock clutch, tranny and dif. I have upgraded to synthetic fluid in the tranny and dif though. No problems.

I don't drag race the car, at stop lights or on a strip. I do track it though, both at solo II events and open track driving schools.

The only difficulty I'm finding now is an unpleasant gasoline smell coming from under the hood. No obvious leaks though. Comptech has replaced the fuel line with no improvement. The fuel pressure regulator is next. We'll see if that helps.

I get on my car a little bit. If I dump the stock clutch from a stop it has slipped some, partly due to the fat p25535R18 Michelin Pilot Sport tires superior grip. But unless you have endless funds and want to race your car all the time I don't see the need to upgrade anything else until it breaks or wears out. I will go to a more competition clutch when I wear this one out. But I still want the clutch pedal to feel relatively easy to depress. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
