Rick,

Did you post pics of the Aeroscreen switch you had installed to prevent the top from being lowered with the screen down?

While I have an idea as to location, was wondering if you could show yours since it works. Also do you know what wire on the brake it split with?

Thanks,

Jim

I never installed it but I do know how it should be done. I just decided it wasn't worth all the trouble.

I'll post something on this later.

That was quick.

Thanks. I will remember but am afraid that if the car is in for service that person working on it may not know.

The switch will force them to raise the screen.

I think Rick's original strategy was to tap into the switch on the hand brake. Sounds like he will describe more about that later.

There might be another approach. It seems that as part of the hardtop installation, a switch is installed to disable the soft top mechanism WHILE the hardtop is on the car. This means that there may be hardware/instructions available from Honda to do the job. Theoretically, a "hardtop" switch could be installed in a different location like the aeroscreen area. (Although I don't know if the "hardtop" switch is appearance-quality, the plugs/wires/instructions might be useful to do the job.)

Sorry I don't have a hardtop or more details
about this, but someone else on the board might...

Good luck!

I have a spare aeroscreen mechanism which I've experimented with. I've drilled a small hole in center of the base under the vertical section of the mechanism. A small (1/8 diameter) RatShack momentary push button switch is screwed into the hole. When the screen is folded back, the push button is open and the circuit is open. When the screen is vertical, the push button is closed, closing the circuit. If you wire this switch in series into the handbrake switch leads, the circuit will always be open unless the handbrake and windscreen are "up" and you won't be able to raise the top.

Quite simple. I haven't yet tried wiring it into the system because I wanted to be sure that the mechanical part would function properly.

The trick will be to hide the leads to the handbrake switch without making it look amateurish. They'll have to run through the compartment or behind the seats, then under the console, but I haven't yet had time to give this any consideration.

This will be a project for warmer weather. I hope to have it done by the time Asheville rolls around.

BTW, the professional installer who did my sound system gave up on this, I think because he was attempting solutions that were way too complicated (reed switches and the like). Sometime the simple solution (e.g., the 75 cent RatShcack push button switch) works and looks better.

I'll try to post some pictures of the switch solution this weekend.
