Switching from TransAm - a good move?
This is a great forum & I'd appreciate some input as an "almost- S2k owner" -- I currently own a '99 Special Edition Trans Am convertible that is wonderful, but I'm being very tempted to switch to a suzuka blue S2k (put down a deposit already). My question is: How many others have switched from muscle cars & been happy or unhappy with the switch? It'll be a huge drop in hp & torque, but everything I've read about the S2k suggests it's the most fun car to drive. It will also be my daily driver. I could get a boxster, vette or M Roadster, but the Honda is really calling to me... Any thoughts, input, would be appreciated!
Heh...I think I fall into this catagory...Before I had my 2001 S2k I had a 2000 Black Firehawk and a 2000 Black WS.6. Both cars were awesome but time came where I wanted to have a good quality car that was better suited for me. I was getting into road racing more and wanted a car that handled better...after looking over all my options the S2000 was the choice I made and it was the easiest one I have ever made... the only thing I miss is the lack of torque but you get so much more with the s2000 that you hardly remember...and if you do...just go into VTEC...
I switched from a Trans Am to the S2000. Mine was an 86, but quite heavily modded and not a 5L...close to 320 whp. I recommend you take one out for a test drive, that will make up your mind. It did for me. A car is not only about power and torque...and this car will show you that.
Hope to see you, next time as a new owner.

You wanna talk about a drop in HP? My user name tells you what I came from. I have no regrets. I don't worry nearly as much about day to day things like driving it in winter as opposed to the other car. Nor do I worry nearly as much about parking it someplace and leaving it for a while. The S gets its own share of looks. It's a marvel of engineering art. It's not as big and bulky to throw around. It's a true convertible. And not that's it's all that important but it's also very fuel efficient. Buying parts, tires and aftermarket stuff for it is waaaay cheaper. Maintenance on the S is much easier. You can actually get at all the spark plugs easily. Oil & filter changes are easier to access as is the battery. Really cool HID headlights, too. And when the warranty is up, I won't be as worried about keeping the car since repairs won't be nearly as much money.
The T/A is a good car too...
It all depends upon what you're looking for...
As a daily driver, the GM-F body does very well. Much more cargo room + four people in a pinch.
Appraise your test drive well!
BTW you'll be hooked once you drive a S 2000!

Went from a '91 Formula 5.7 (bought in US (Buffalo), owned for 3 years in Canada (Toronto) and then 5 years in Australia (Melbourne)) to the Stook. The Formula was a great torque monster and looked fabulous but the rest of the car stank. I felt so relieved going back to a manual (stick) after driving an auto so long - the Stook is well worth it.
I made the transition a few weeks ago from an 96 Corvette (LT4). I only have about 120 miles on my '02, so I'm still a newbie myself. I was looking for a vehicle that would be fun, sporty, and most importantly RELIABLE for everyday use. I also looked at the Z06, Boxster-S, and the SLK, but inevitably chose the s2k because I have had great experiences with the bullet-proof reliability of Hondas in the past. I think the S2k gives you all the benefits of a great all-around sports car, w/o all the "worries" of having to visit the Porsche/BMW dealer on a regular basis for problems and paying an arm and a leg for repairs (I'm speaking from experience...M3/944/911).
Like everyone says..drive one! The test drive did it for me, and I'm sure once you drive it, you'll be able to make an informed decision. For me it was the right balance of performance/sportiness/reliability which sealed the deal. Criteria for you might be different for others, but I'm not one to judge a car on 1/4 mile times alone. I do miss the torque down low, but I'm sure once 600 miles comes around, ill be all smiles. good luck...
