Switching from TransAm - a good move?
LVS2K......that was funny!!!
My last car was an '00 Corvette C5 couple 6sp with Z51. Many people here know that I had it bought back due to lemon law. It was a pile of shit, and I was very happy to get rid of it.
Still, I did have a lot of apprehension about getting the S2000. I didn't know what I'd do with myself without all that power and torque.
After driving the S2000, I don't miss my C5 at all!!!! The S2000 is so surgically sharp and precise. It is just SO much fun to drive. It handles so well, is built vastly better than it's American-made rivals, returns great gas mileage and it very unique. You don't see too many around. Plus, you'll be staying with a full convertible. And, I don't know any other car that can give you a 9K rush like the S2000 can!
The choice should be easy for you. I don't recall reading about one member that traded from a muscle car that now misses it. Everybody seems to be too happy with their S2000's. One gentleman on this forum even had a Z06 before getting his S2000. He loves his S2K.
Hope this helps!

I couldn't agree more with the post above me. I too will be selling my 2002 Z28 this month in order to get an S2000. I have had an 85 Civic(first car), 91 Accord(which i still have), a 94 Ford Ranger(lasted me a year then sold), and my current muscle the Z28. I must say the Z is fun driving, especially in a straight line, but it doesn't have that import quality feel to me that I have come to appreciate and expect from Honda. Let's not even touch on the topic of reliability. I am going to test drive one this afternoon at 3 just to see if I can fit in the damn thing at 6' 2". I already want one and haven't even driven it yet. Sheesh. Take care all.
Well, I kept my '96 Z28 and while I love the S, I did miss driving the Z sometimes. Now, I drive it about once or twice a week. They are both high performance cars. The S is faster in the twisties and the Z is a competent handler and a blast to put your foot in. I love them both but haven't regretted making the move.
BTW, the Z has 110k mile and the engine is still kick ass.

I previously had a Mustang LX 5.0 hatchback. I do love the rumble and low-end torque of a V8, and my early questions about the S2000 mainly concerned torque for daily driving as well as ease of exit/entry. No problems either way....despite what road tests call "lack of low-end torque" I feel the high rear-end ratio coupled with the 6-speed enable you to drive with spirit or without equally and still achieve sufficient speed for any situation. This includes back-road apex strafing, freeway cruising and city traffic commuting. As far as the entry/exit, one develops little techniques to accomplish this without bumping the head, scraping the door sill and (with some engineering assistance) moving the floor mat all over the place.
Get the S2000 and without hesitation I can say you will be 125% satisfied.

Thanks for all of the input, folks- the more I read, the more I'm convinced I want the S2k, & your thoughtful comments are very helpful--- nice to know I'm not alone in making such a switch!
I made my trade in 95' vette LT1 about a year ago and i have a 01' s2000, thought i was gonna miss the HP but not really, the s2k demands respect. My brother has a modded 90' 300zxTT, two cousins each own a supra one 94 one 97, All those cars have awesome hp but my s2000 is still the eye opener. I love all cars domestic or import you should test drive the s2k before making any desicions many people don't like many people love it...you will know as soon as you push the start button....oh please don't vtec the car you test drive in...thank you...and you are always welcome here whether you drive an s2k or not=)
I traded in my TA, and have not missed it once. I know that the TA is a 'faster' car, but I wanted something a 'lil smaller, better reliability (the TA was in the shop for 'warentee' work at least 6 times in 2 years), better handling, better fuel economy (did I just say that?) and so on...
Honda606:
I am 6'1" and have no problems fitting in the S, I too was worried about the fit. It fits me like a glove
my only problem is i cannot see street lights (red/yellow/green) if i am the forst car in line, so I bought one of the 'lightinsight' lenses, and it actually works well enough.
Good luck guys, and hope ya'll enjoy the S
