Remember a time when it was legal and allowed to pour your used oil in the back alley to "keep the dust down"? I kept the dust down with synthetic.
(I think there is some dirt in my back yard that's slightly older than me.)

I hadn't heard that the s2k uses more oil when u v-tec. Is it a significant amount? Is it only in some cases or does it apply to all s2k's? TIA Rob

The heaviest oil consumption is during the first 3-5000 miles. This most noticeable is right after the initial "easy driving" stage because this is when an owner is more likely to begin to VTEC. Some have reported in excess of 1 qt. every 800-1000 miles if VTEC'd a lot. There is perhaps about 1-2% of cases that report no oil useage at all. This is still a mystery why a few cars do not consume when almost every car does. This is why it is imperative to check the oil level every fuel up or equivalent and top up if required.
If you've been following the loose spark plug thread lately, you might consider checking the tightness on those too.

I may or may not change to a synthetic oil. If I do it will probably be Mobile 1. However, I must say, I have never used a synthetic in any of my past cars and I have never had any engine problems due to the type of oil I use. I believe it is more important that you change the oil and filter at the scheduled times. If you do this, you should not have any problems and you'll save a few bucks as well.

There are NO women S2000 owners near Philly... at all!

And I second the Mobil 1 10w30 every 3500 miles.. regardless of your driving conditions!

At the same intervals as regular oil - every 5000 km (3000 miles). Yeah, I know, this makes for very expensive oil maintenance but my vehicles are worth it. I left Quaker State 5W50 synthetic in a previous vehicle for 15,000 km and it sludge up badly. This may have been due to the fact that it was Quaker State, which has been known to sludge regardless of type of oil.

Can anyone agree? Usually it's the manufacturer that tells you to be patient and wait for your rings to seat when you are using alot of oil! I have used 1/4 litre of oil in first 5000km, and am about to do a change. Thank god I'm not getting the consumption some of you are experiencing!

PS see you down at Deals Gap soon....the motorcycle-car twisty mecca of the east

PSS I'm from Canada, aand it's worth the drive down!
