Default T1R test pipe rattle solved

As some of you might know, I purchased the t1r testpipe a few weeks ago. After installing it the first time, I had rattling in a bunch of areas on the rpm scale. I then added some more bolts underneath in hopes to stop the rattling; that solved most rattling aside from a VERY loud one at around 5k...made the worst rattling, sounded like a fart can civic with a lose exhaust.

Finally, one of the members recommended a silicone seal called High-Temp Ultra Copper RTV Silicone Gasket Maker from Permatex. Well last weekend, I decided to forge the cold windy weather and go under the car and seal the all the edges of the heatshield with this silicone. I noticed that the non-fouler plugs were also touching the side of the heatshield so I got my trusty dremel out and cut out some of the heatshield O2 hole. I then went along with my orgional plan of lining the heatshield with this stuff. After about 1 hour of squirting this copper stuff out of the tube, getting it all over myself and underneath the car, I got the heatshield on with a nice seal on ever part of the heatshield that came in contact with itself.

I let it dry for a few hours, went out took a little drive to warm the silicone up and then let it sit again for the rest of the night.

The final result was perfect; the heatshield doesn't rattle anymore! So no more tinny sounding exhaust, and no one would know it is catless by looking undernearth

Thanks to whomever recommended this stuff; although as nasty as it was, it worked great!

Glad them gasket maker helped you, I'd however went with a different approach. I'd used some sound deadening sprays to eliminate that rattle, inside the heatshield are black due to the coating color of the deadening spray but outside is perfect. To me that was by far the easiest way to eliminate that awful rattle, I didn't want something that will hold both the top and bottom heatshield together (gasket maker) when I go and remove it due to whatever reason.

Looks stock..... Therefore if a cop dose a visual inspection of the car you might get away with out the huge fine for removing emissions equipment.

I have a little rattle of my own I am trying to figure out? I have a Berk test pipe and I get a small faint rattle at vtec. I can mostly hear it when passing a wall or other objects next to the car. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Chances are the O2 sensor wasn't tightened up enough and is probably a little loose. The main part of my rattles were because of that.

i had the old T1R test pipe without the heatshield brackets and this shit would sound so damn ricey around vtec on decel. It drove me crazy. I replace that with a megan resonated test pipe and it alleviated some of the noise, but it didn't completely remove it.

I too, am wondering what could be causing this.

Thanks, I will check that out. I am going to check all the bolts, it's been a couple of weeks since my install. I have a different pipe than you, but did you follow Honda's torque specs on the spring bolts of 16ft-lbs?

I just tightened them as much as possible so there was no chance of anything else rattling.

When there's no torque wrench around, that's what you gotta do .

About removing the heatshield? One of the main purpose people purchase the T1R or J's racing test pipe is due to the fact that it comes with mounting points so that you can mount the oem cat heatshield to make it appear stock.
