Here's the best photo I can get. Notice I slowed down 64 MPH! I can't get the camera to focus better. It wants to focus on the steering wheel. The tach hasn't gotten a blow from the front. If you look at it a second, you'll see that it's practically impossible to HIT it in that it is so deep inside the nacelle. (Do you like it when I talk dirty like that?)

I think that it is interesting that I noticed it the morning after I had parked outside overnight, probably for only the second time in the S2000's short life. It didn't get down to freezing that night but it did frost. Wonder if that contributed?

Certainly it is a defect. I'll take it in and let everybody know.

I took my S2000 by the local Honda dealer at lunch today. They said that they need to replace the instrument cluster and that this will reset my odometer to 0. They didn't have one in stock so they had to order one. Should be in in about a week. They said that they could do the replacement in one day, no overnight stay required. They said that they had never seen this problem.

My confidence dropped when I asked the service writer to check my oil and top off if needed. HE COULDN'T FIND THE DIP STICK!

I have a bug that somehow made its way inside the tachometer(right around engine temp bars). Talked to the dealer about it and their respond was that nothing can be done about it. Is there anyway I might be able to disassemble this(is it too much of a hassle??)...its bothering me like crazy....someone please help....

That's odd. I don't think that it would change your ODO back to zero. I don't know all the details about the S2000 ECU and what not, but I'm pretty sure that it keeps tabs of the mileage and junk...right? Someone clear this up. It can't be THIS easy to dupe people about the car's actual mileage...

I know in Florida if you have to replace the instrument cluster you have to note it on your title that the milage is not 'actual.'

So you might not have a 'clean' title anymore...

In the old days, the ODO was definitely part of the instrument cluster. The ECU might keep track of the mileage, but an ECU reset would probably reset that to zero.

rahvis was right! I just picked up my S2000 after the warranty repair and the ODO is unchanged. Early experience is that the work was done well - no rattles or pieces falling off. Time will tell.

The original order of the instrument cluster was backordered with no ETA. The service manager had to escalate it. It arrived about 2 weeks after the original order was placed.

Of course, everything was under warranty - no charge. They did the work in well less than 8 hours.

I take it that it looks that way even when its not lit up? If not..........I can just see you going to the dealer and saying yea look at this then I drive at [red]redline[/red] you can see this area is discolored! Wonder if saying that would make him think twice about your warranty on your engine. Or is it just me that finds that funny.
