Default Taking apart headlights....HELP!

Man what a crap weekend. Saturday night I decide to bite the bullet and take apart the headlights to remove the ugly orange inserts. Well, I'm not going to go into the entire story cause that would take to long but, after 13 hours of work I still don't have one of these damn things open. I have used a high powered hair dryer which actually worked the best, a heat gun, and the oven. Nothing works...I finally got it to the point where there is at least a 1/4 inch gap around the whole headlight where the glue should be and the damn headlight housing still won't budge...I don't know what the hell is holding it on there...did I miss a screw or something? It doesn't even move a little bit...is there some magic trick or something...anyway...now that I have put this much effort into it I refuse to give up...does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong...have any tips...anything... I just put the headlight back on the car last night the way it was so I can take it off again and keep working on it...I can take off the whole bumper and headlight now in 5 mintues... Anyway any help would be appreciated!

I used the oven to open mine and had my wife help me pry them open. I heated the oven to 250degrees and put them in for 10-12 minutes. After that I pulled them out as fast as I could and pryed them open with a couple of screw drivers to help wedge between the pieces. I had to put them back in the oven a couple of times to reheat the glue in order to get them totally apart, they cool down quickly. Make sure you unsnap the little plastic snaps that go around the housing as well. It is a pain in the ass for sure but don't give up and don't get frustrated and break anything. It is totally worth it once you're done.

Let me know if I can help with anything else... Good Luck

get somebody to help you, they hold the heat gun, while you use a flat head to pry it apart slowly, then when you seal it heat it up so it's very soft and just seal it. Make sure to use a lot of Silicon sealant.

It took me 15 minutes per housing: Used a heat gun on half of the perimeter with the pointy end... round and round until I could pull apart the two pieces (heat gun on low heat... keep moving so you don't melt plastic). Then I did the other half. No melted plastic and no difficulties.

lvs2K,

So I could paint the inside of my Euro-housings body color... Plus, you know me, I have to mess with everything.

GLAD to have found this thread:
I tried it earlier today. I took me like an hour or so to open the bumper and another 15 mins to figure out that there's a hidden screw on the right headlight. Took a quick break, and spend the next 2 hours trying to get the darn thing apart with 2 high-power hair-dryer. NO USE, the darn glue is too much for me. I don't have a heat gun so i'm guessing i'll try the oven method like WeGod tomm. It's not easy, hopefully it'll work. What kind of glue did you guys use when putting it back together.
