well, I have used the search feature but the posts seems pretty ancient so maybe things have changed.

anyway I fell in love with the s2k, problem is im young. I need you guys to talk me out of trying to buy one of these things in about a month, because im extremely tempted to. Tell me some problems with it, reasons it sucks, or anything you can think of like insurance rates, or monthly payments (I can throw 16k down, and have about 5k for mods, probly FI the thing)

loan calcs say for a 32k loan with 16k down at 6% is like 260-280 a month, but I need to call insurance places to, thats probly gonna shoot my hopes down right there.

Anyway I should use my money for other things, but im sick of waiting forever for things I REALLY want, or not getting them at all, and I can only be this young once, would be sweet to have something like a s2k turbo at this age.

heh and yup I never said how old I was

so try and give me some reasons not to get it please! lol, bet thats never been asked

Well, since your birthday is July 22, 1985, that makes you almost 18.

My humble opinion: don't buy it, simply because of the fact that you're not sure that you want it, and that you want it right now (there's always later). no matter that you have the cash to afford it (and insurance will gut you at your age), you should only get the car if you are 100% certain that it is what you want. a car is an atrocious investment-- especially a sportscar-- and the ongoing costs will be especially large for your age group, etc.

When I decided that I am getting this car (by July 4th), some of my friends tried to talk me out of it, saying, "Man, you don't need that car! That's a huge pile of cash to put into something that's just to get you from point A to point B..."

To which I replied, "It's not a need thing, it's a must have thang. And it's about how I get from A to B, and the fun I'll have while doin' it. And I want it, and that's just that."

You gotta want it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Have you ever bought something on a whim and kinda regretted it later? Well, maybe you coulda returned it if you kept your receipt. With this car, you can't really do that. And this car would probably be one of your largest purchases. (assumption on my part, you could be a totally wealthy young entreprenur-- forgive me if my assumptions are off)

So don't buy it, IMHO. A lot of money to dump into something you're having doubts about.

Besides, you can always buy later, and get the 2.2L, when you're more certain, have a bit more cashed saved up, etc.

17 and sick of waiting for things you want huh? Just wait... it gets worse.

Buy a used one... nearly out of warranty. Drive it a a few months or until it is out of warranty, then FI it. You'll save money. Don't forget, with a new one you'll lose your warranty the minute you slap the turbo or supercharger on it.

Since you're young I imagine your taste in cars will change quickly. If you buy used you won't lose your shorts when you go to trade it in 18 months for the latest EVO 12 or Nissan 400ZZ.

IMO this is not a good first sportscar to own. If you do buy one spend the extra $5000 on driving schools and really learn to drive the thing. Otherwise the car very well might bite you in the ass.

Take your 21k and buy a house. Get a 15 year mortgage. Pay it off in 10 and live like a king the rest of your life since you will then be 28 an have no house payment. Think of all the cool toys you can buy then.

I think he does have extra money right now (16k plus 5k (for mods)). My opinion?? Get a used 00 or 01 for under 26k, put your 16000 down and end up with 150-200 car payments. If your record is not too bad and your parents will let you be on their insurance policy plan on insurance being the same as your car payment (150-200). Or you could take your 21000 and almost pay cash for one . Thats what I would do.....
