Tape player controls
How come the stock radio/CD player has buttons for the non-existent tape player? On rare occasion I listen to tapes (for work) and find it disappointing not to have the ability to do so.
Also, has anyone determined what the strange slots inside the radio door are supposed to be used for?

The strange slots are for all your speeding tickets or condoms or toll tickest or ..... i don't really know as i cut them out when i installed my vafc in the door
as for the tape functions... are you sure you're not looking at the cd functions...

I have an '01 so I don't have the mystery button.
The slots inside the door are for cards for security gates, ID's, etc. They actually fit in there with the shirt clips on. I doubt any one uses the slot (I use the little holder where defrost would be if I had glass
)

The deck is used by Honda in other models (One reason rear speakers are possible) and Honda sells an OEM tape deck for these OTHER models
If your ultimate question is can I add a tape deck to the deck, Yes. Is it worth it, most likely not.
