That is like saying it was the gun's fault. Sorry, but it was the person who used the gun. I have seen some very talented young drivers that could SMOKE an average 25 year old driver. I believe that a person could learn more, and become more skilled in a racecar or kart that generates more G load than the average street car. A person who has 5 years of experience in a kart could have more talent than someone who has been driving street cars for 20 years.

I will admit that you truely learn street survival skills on public roads and congested highways. I drove for quite a few years on the street before I got on a racetrack. By the time I drove on a track, I had pretty damn good car control. I attribute this to the survival skills I leaned on public highways. I used to race karts when I was a teenager.

I have worked a lot...worked since I was...well the month after I turned 15, my freshman year in highschool, never played sports...worked a lot, saved a lot of money.

Crashed my first 95 Eclipse GST and got what I paid for it from insurance, then crashed my 97 Accord EX, also got what I paid for that, so no real loss in money...this was all in my 1st year of driving. I was bad, however, I NEVER hit another car...it was all my fault for trying to push the car to its limit without knowing how to control it...this is why I consider AutoX experience INVALUABLE.

After all that, I got a new job at a nice restaurant...only making min 6.75/hr but when you add tips in...a average of 50-60bucks a night...sometimes more sometimes less...but thats an average, and normal 5 hour nights (5-10)...60/5=12 12+6.75=18.75 so for that past 26months I've been making about 18bucks an hour...

I found a good job, kept it, saved more money...actually sold my last car, a 99 Eclipse GST that I had dumped over 7g's into and gotten it to the 12's but realized straightline speed isn't the most fun, and neither is FWD...I'm a racer, I need a real car.

So I sold all the mods from that, sold the car, put 12g's down (after tax) for the S and got a 9k loan (cause I wanted to build credit), my payments are only 176 a month...easily affordable as that is less than 15% of what I make, then insurance is another 200 something a month...I like the car, I don't have to pay rent, YET, and I think its worth what I pay for it. And by the time that I DO have to pay rent, the car will be paid off...so I think thats better than waiting till after college.

Anyway, thats how I did it...all I needed from my parents (and all I got) was my moms name written by her on a piece of paper on top of the word "cosigner"...even though I'll never default...

I also got a damn good rate of 4.5%

I didn't see anyone mention this yet (but then I only skimmed a few of the posts):

Your 16. Unless you have no friends, you are going to want a BACK SEAT.

Unless your parents let you bring girls home to your bedroom and shut the door, you are going to want a BIG BACK SEAT.

When I was 16, a sports car was the furthest thing from my mind. I wanted a van.

Hell ya to that...or at least a front seat with a lot of room that actually reclines...lol

I didn't think about that either...I just bring them home now...
