Default ten year old car?

Hi guys,

I'm new here. I did a search on this, but with no results, so if it's a repeat I apologize in advance.

I have some cash coming in and I want to buy an s2000. I've been wanting one for a while now, and after driving both ap1s and ap2s to see which one I liked, I liked the ap1 a little better. Ideally, I'd like a 2003 with low miles. 90% of the ones on sale in this area are ap2s, and it seems like I'd have to buy one and ship it here if I want an 03. That being said there is a 2000 down at the subbie dealership with 16,500 miles on it with only one owner, and it looks to me to be in great condition. Even the horrid plastic window in the back is clean and clear. I like the fact that I can inspect and see the car myself before purchase. The only reason I'm hesitant to buy it is because the car is 10 years old. The plan is to get it checked out by a mechanic and then buy. It's 14k from the dealer.

Would you guys encourage or discourage this purchase, and is there anything I'm not thinking about that I should consider. Also, could u guys post your experiences on buying a car out of state?

Many Thanks, and It's great to be part of the forum finally.

IMO, i would rather buy a car that i can look at in person and have checked out rather than buying a car and having it shipped to me. The only thing is it is a ten year old car and the dealer wanting 14k for it. If you get it for around 12ish then that is a deal as long as the car is mechanically sound. good luck with purchasing an awesome car.. and welcome to s2ki...

Mileage trumps age when we are talking under 20 years and well maintained. Essentially you have car that has had a bit over a year of use.

$14k is high for an 00 even with 16k miles. Where are you located?

Don't concentrate on the year...by the mileage it's only about a year old. I would try to get them down to $14K out the door though...don't forget the dealer price always adds on a few thousand more

I wouldn't worry about age but the price is too high, I'd probably go in 11-12k max

I was in the same boat, but a lot of 02's and 03's I looked at looked pretty worn out when I test drove them. Found a MY00 with 20k miles and it was pretty mint.

It drives like new with no issues.
