Well, my mileage is getting kind of high on my '01 and my wife is kinda pushing me to get something newer with full warantee. (Mines out of warantee) So went to a dealership last night and test drove an '05. LET ME TELL YOU, I was not impressed. Everyone always braggs and boast's about the "extra" low end torgue. Well after drive the '05, I really didn't feel in the mood to add an extra $15000 to my car loan. I feel like with the pre-04 cars that if you know how to drive them and use the powerband, then there's no difference at all between the two. I do like prefer the stiffer suspension of the pre-04. I don't feel like the '05 is worth the extra money at all, and I'm just going to check into extending warantee options for mine.

Also mine has a aftermarket clutch and it really grabs in between shifts and the '05 factory clutch felt like I was losing power in between shifts...

That's my .02
thanks for sharing....pay off old car first before buying another.

Not imposing, expressing.

And lets just say that people will have to agree to disagree on this subject. Some like the more low end torque, other prefer the 9k redline. Either way they are great cars and deserve their status in their own right. However, if you already have the car, and are happy with it, keep it and just be prepared to put a bit of money into it. It'll be less for many years than if you buy a new one. Also, this is just my opinion, I am just expressing it, and I do hope you do what you feel is best for you in your position, whatever that might be.

It's a Honda (and it's just a '01) so why in the world are you worried about needing a warranty? Remeber anyone selling you one making a profit (else they wouldn't be selling them) so I'd tell you to take your chances -- after all they're in your favor!

That's not entirely true, they are taking a calculated risk, as are you. They figure you will sell/total/loose your car before you cost them the paid amount in repairs. If you take into account the type of car you're talking about, if you keep it for two years after getting the warranty, you will probably get back out of it what you put in. But the S has MUCH higher repair costs and higher failure rates due to the high performing nature. And reaaaaaallly expensive engine components.

P.S. My $1500 HondaCare warranty had paid for itself before I hit the 1 year mark.

When comparing the S2000 with other manufacturer's offerings, the S2000 is very reliable.

When comparing the S2000 with other Hondas, it's more... erm... high maintenance. This is expected of this kind of car.

What's scary is that repairs can be a biatch and expensive too. Quite a few of the mechanical problems posted here (assuming the car is unmodified) wind up being the really expensive kind to fix. Cylinder scoring, and rear differential repair is very expensive, and can occur sometimes without abusing the car.

i like to add something....
i dont think 04+ is easy to launch at all, little over rev and you will smoke clutch in a blink. i done it 3 times before i realize there was delay valve on the slave cylinder.

And thanks to Cyclon36's thread i bought pre-04 slave and changed it out about month ago.
Let me tell you, it's a lot easier to launch and i dont have to worry about smoking clutch anymore. BTW.. thank you

Let me add 1 more thing.
03 RSR driftint s2000 currently running F22, i dont think honda made a mistake when they changed to 2.2

you're right , not worth 15g's for the upgrade. the engine does get looser(more powerful) as the miles pack on. test car was probably a little tight.

I had an 00 and loved it for reasons already mentioned. I now have an 04 and love it for different reasons. The S2000 is a great car in any model year and if they still make them in 3 or 4 more years I'll take a look and if I like it I'll buy it. The real attribute of this car, in my opinion, is its handling characteristics, particuarly around the back roads where I live. The 04 is a little more civilized and that is fine with me. Be careful with an extended warranty as I was disappointed with the Honda Care warranty I had on my 00.

It's so funny how you can immediately tell how the younger crowd responds to threads like this (ie. your gay, your stupid, mine is better etc.. ), and how the older "adult" crowd respond (ie. thought out opinions) as well. I like all the years.. so im jus expressing what i found funny.
