How many owners were given a test drive prior to buying their stook? For those who didn't get one, have you ever made a comparable purchase of such a magnitude 'blind'? How did you know that this was the one for you without a drive? What do you recall of taking delivery and your first drive off the dealer's lot?

I test drove one at a local dealership. I thought it felt slow, sluggish and wasn't really impressed with the engine. I compared it to my friends ITR and was dissapointed. The chassis was real stiff and the shifter had the shortest throw I've ever seen. During my first 1-2 shift, my hand actually came off the stick because I was used to my 95 Talon. I posted my findings on the board and the owners indicated that there could be many factors which may have contributed to the poor performance like poor break-in, low oil, etc.

The bottom line was I knew that Honda/Acura makes great products and I really wanted a convertible sports car. When I picked up my car, I immediately noticed that my car felt much more powerful than the test-drive car. I couldn't stop smiling during my 2 hour drive home from the dealership. I'm still smiling 25k/9mths later.

No test drive, and certainly never made a blind purchase without first testing the goods.

What can I say? I just *knew* that this was the right car. One look at the specs and one sit in the driver's seat and I was sold.

I got a test drive. Not only did I get to test drive it, but the salesman told me, before leaving the lot, to do two things to really appreciate what this car could do: 1 -pretend that he wasn't in the car and 2-pretend that I just stole it and needed to get away fast.

Well, I did as he asked and wasn't prepared for what happend next. Leaving the lot I goosed it and whipped the back end around! Talk about surprised!! I've never had a car that could do that from a dead stop!!

It only got better from that point on. I really had no intention of buying the car that day, but when we got back to the dealership, I parked the car, turned it off and told the salesman that we should go inside and get the paperwork going!!

Haven't been sorry since!

no test drive. only rode in one for about a quarter of a mile (thanks Tex), flew out to NM, signed the papers, loaded up, and drove it right off the showroom floor back to Texas.

I had the good fortune of being able to take a used, broken-in (hoefully - it had 2K on it) S2000 out for a test drive. The salesman didn't go with me -- he said, "have fun." I was gone 10 minutes and came back with a $hit eating grin on my face -- he says, "back already?" I say, "I'll take one..."

Walked out the door 52 minutes later with silver/black #5684 -- including have to negotiate a trade-in value for my 00 Audi. Haven't stopped smiling yet -- I actually get excited in the AM to go to work. My friends and girlfriend think I am nuts -- I am!

I've never bought a car without a test drive until my Stook. I could have test driven the car before I signed the papers but I just kind of new it was right. After being on this board for a while and knowing it was a Honda I wasn't too worried. Friends asked, "What if you drive it and don't like how it feels?". I mean there is always that chance but boy was I ever right about this car. I love every second I'm in the seat!! If you've done your research and can't test drive one, don't worry, you'll LOVE it!

No test drive. Had to go to a different town to purchase. Made my decision based on the philosphy of the car, the fact that it was a Honda, and the comments of members from this board (well actually the predecessor board).

Bought the Odyssey for my wife the same way.

I test drove it twice at two different dealerships. I then bought it from another dealership 9 months later. The car felt fast for me. How fast the stook feels really depends on where you are coming from, or what you drove previously. If your previous car was a new vette then the S obviously will feel slow. But, in my case, my previous car was a 87 MR2 so the S felt very fast for me.
