[quote]Tell me about it...I flew out from Los Angeles to my old hometown of Owing Mills, MD to buy my car

That is a long way! I only had to go about 130 miles on a train. Actually I was all prepared to either go to Boston and to someplace in Kansas -- I think the dealer was in Wichita -- to buy the S2K. I lucked out by reading the classified section in my morning commute and buying the car that afternoon over the phone from a dealer from a small town in Virginia.

My sales man had a used one on the lot next to him (about 5k miles on a red one at the time). He strongly suggested that we take it for a test drive... it turns out, he just wanted to drive it around! He wanted one bad, and this was the only way he could get to play w/them...

Needless to say, the guy didn't know how to truely drive the car... Since I was buying one, and this one was used... well-- I treated it like a rental car! (uth ohh).

Scared the b-jesus outta the guy... 7k drop, 9k shifts through 3rd, basically how we drive normally :-)

S2KMan took me for a wild ride in his. Winded it up to 9K in gear (except 6th), then handed me the keys. I was scared to drive it. Took some getting used to, but I was completely sold after that first drive. A couple of months later, he got married and needed a place to keep his car. Luckily, he chose my garage!!! I had it for two weeks. Didn't drive it too much. Wanted to return it in one piece. Actually, I didn't really want to return it at all, so I bought one.

Well, I did as he asked and wasn't prepared for what happend next. Leaving the lot I goosed it and whipped the back end around! Talk about surprised!!

I test drove the actual car I bought with my girlfriend as passenger. They threw me the keys and let 'er rip. I wish they had a broken-in car to try but I was still sold on it (even after one stinky clutch slip incident during the test drive).

On a similar vein, most motorcycles are a big blind purchase. Unless you drive a buddy's, at a trade show, or a demo model at your friendly local BMW dealer.

A friend of mine had one and was all excited about it. I had never seen one before and thought, wow, a 30k del sol, why'd he buy that? He kept asking if I wanted to take a ride and it always seemed crappy out, so I declined.

Then one beautiful Friday in June he called me and asked me if I wanted to take a cruise. I said sure. I saw the car, he had a silver/red. I loved the look of it from the outside, but when I got in, I thought to myself, that's a lot of red... We dropped the top and proceeded out of the parking lot at work. A few people I knew commented on how the car looked. Then we went for a cruise. We got on some twisties and he kept going into vtec and asked if I could feel the vtec. I said I was not sure. I did notice how well it hugged the road.

Then he let me drive it - hehehe... I started driving it and was shifting before it got to vtec - always drove a stick, but never past 5k rpm. So he kept prompting me to drive it to redline. I did and truly felt the power of the vtec. He let me drive it another 30 minutes or so. I drove on the highway, did twisties.

That weekend, my sister was visiting my parents and I went down to see them. I could not stop talking about the car. My sister finally said that I should get that car if I liked it so much. That next monday, I called my friend and asked if he minded if there was another s2k out in the parking lot. I told him I wanted the black/black. He thought it was cool.

Since then, he has kept his S2k completely stock. He did not get any of the spoilers/stakes. I got the spoiler/stakes and did a bunch of mods. He has 6k miles on his, after the Asheville cruise, I have 12k miles on mine...

Definitely have been loving every minute with that car...

"White/Red: bubble cockpit, periscope, extending buzz saws, extending jacks and homing pigeon. Trixie, Spritle, Chim Chim ride shotgun!"

Hey WhiteRocket why can't you get those initials on your shirts to match you names? Regards to Chim Chim and the kids. Does the bubble cockpit have the same fogging-up problem as the rest have?

My car had 15 miles on it when I took delivery on June 27. I had given them a whole list of instructions. One of which was no VTEC. They were very cool about it.
