Default Test pipe and resonator removal...

Was considering a cat back exhaust, but really don't want to spend that kinda change right now. Thought maybe this test pipe and resonatoer removal from the stock exhaust would help to open it up a little and give it more growl. I am concerned about tripping any codes/idiot lights with the test pipe though. Anyone done this? Any opininons would be greatly appreciated.

Where ever you live, cat removal is illegal.!!!
Our cat is a high flow desing, with little restriction.
If you'r looking for" growl" improvement, you can remove the resonnator,no H.P. gain there, but no loss!!

I would love to know about this as well, as I don't feel that losing about 35lbs or so by spending $1,000 on a nice exhaust is worth it.

I just want a little bit more "growl" as well, and if its possible, some HP gains.

I did a resonatorectamy about a week ago. I can't tell much if any difference inside the car, all I get is intake noise, however from outside (my wife drives my S too) it sounds louder and has a bit more growl. And yea cat removal is BAD!!!
