Test pipe ticket
The car comes from the factory with a metal honeycomb catalyzer instead of a conventional ceramic honeycomb catalyzer. SAE papers state that the metal honeycomb reduces backpressure 42% over conventional cats. Honda has already installed a high flow cataylitic converter to the S2000 to help them get the most power out of our cars.
Seriously the HFC's for the s2k are basically testpipes. Just take a peak inside the oem one and the aftermarket one and you can tell instantly. Also honda did not design a special cat for the s2k, it is the same one they use for there other vehicles nothing particularity "high flow" about it.
With the HFC, you most likely wont pass smog but it is a quick and easy swap. In the meantime it will keep you out of tickets with cops as they would not know the difference. Oh and there is only about a 1 hp difference between the gains of a HFC and testpipe so why not?

It's not Cali. It's Federal law: $2500 fine if the FEDS catch the "tampering or removal" of any pollution control device. The probability of getting caught varies from locale to locale, but it's Federal law that is technically applicable in any of the 50 states.
